I have been notified for 2 months now about below seller performance due to defect rate being over 2% for 2024. I have 5 transaction from March to October. ebay's policy is below. I have had good standing accounts since early 2000s with never any issues. I was not aware of a defect rate policy until last month. I'm being evaluated on a 12 month period because I have never and could never in a lifetime sell 400 transactions in 3 months. So I only have 1 other option and none of the 5 transactions will be falling off for many months down the road in 2025. Meanwhile I'm getting monthly evaluations warning the holding of funds and cancellation of account. My hands are tied because there is no other option for a way to fix this issue. I'm a good seller. Honest, but being treated like a thief or not good enough because I can't do 400+ transactions in 3 months makes me want to just cancel my account after so many years.
To make sure we're getting a fair picture, we'll adjust how far we look back (the "evaluation period") depending on how much you've sold recently:

5 transactions with defects will pretty much sink most sellers.
All you can do is keep on selling and hope for the best by making sure not to allow eBay to step in and do any refunds in your behalf and do not cancel any orders for Out Of Stock or Damaged. One more could be the end of the line.
Good luck.

Ebay has had a "Defects" policy for many many years. Likely more than two Decades. It was started in the early 2000's.
I always encourage sellers to review their seller Dashboard, at the very least, once per week. It can warn you when you are getting into trouble and sometimes you will be able to head it off before you get some type of sanction. SAVE the link. Review it closely. Each section that has a down arrow on the right side of your screen offers some additional information that can be useful.

The Evaluation of sellers happen every 20th of each month for the previous period that ended the previous month. So for those of us eval'd on the past 12 months, on the January 20th eval will be for the 12 month period ended December 31st.
So go and review your Dashboard closely and tell us if you learn some things you may not of been previously aware of.

I don't worry about not selling 400 items every three months, but I do worry about defects. Have you corrected or become familiar with what caused them? To stay in good standing those have to be avoided. In the early years, there were several things that could cause a defect, but now there are two.

If you are selling so little, how did you accumulate 5 defects?
What caused them?

The number of transactions is of minor importance. What is important, as others have stated, is figuring out what caused them. As suggested look at your seller level and identify the defects, what are they? Others may be able to offer some advice or you can review the following.
