How many times am I going to be fooled? Too many. Praying that I can control my tiny little brain and just be done.
- I sell a used camera lens
- Buyer receives and uses said camera lens at a wedding.
- Buyer files a refund claiming that the lens doesn't reflect the description because the photos he took are blurry.
- At my request, buyer tells me the settings he used to take the photos.
- I informed customer that the Shutter Speed was too slow. Significantly too slow to freeze the action which is why his photos are blurry. I provide the universally accepted Shutter Speed Calculation to demonstrate.
- Buyer says no thanks. He knows what he's doing and he wants a refund.
- I have zero options and to add insult to injury I am forced to pay shipping.
What exactly am I missing here? Seller Does Not Accept Returns - what does that even mean?

The 'does not accept returns' does NOT mean 'will not be FORCED to refund'.
It even says that right below your 'does not accept refunds'- tells the buyer that they are covered under the 30 day MBG.

No returns is only for "remorse" returns.
If the buyer is unhappy or claims "not as described" you WILL be refunfing him, whether you accept the return or not.
It's called Ebay's money back guarantee. All sellers should be aware of it.

ALL eBay sellers need to read eBay's Money Back Guarantee for buyers, preferably before starting to sell here. As the other poster explained, "No returns" does not mean "No refunds".
How would you feel as a buyer if you received something abysmally not as described that you had spent hundreds of dollars on and discovered that you couldn't return it and be refunded?
Just idle curiosity: You've been here since May, 2000. Is this the very first refund request you've had?

Not EXACTLY sure of what you may be missing, but, if you thought "no returns" meant "no refunds", then you evidently have not read eBay's Money Back Guarantee for buyers. ALL sellers need to carefully study the MBG, preferably BEFORE beginning to sell here.
When/if a buyer opens an item not as described case, even if the seller knows it's bogus, the seller's best bet is to send the prepaid shipping label and refund when he receives the item back. The buyer has 30 days after receipt to open a case with eBay.
What is you were a buyer and you received an item that was not as described. Would you think it would be fair that the seller could say, "But I said no returns, so that means no refunds"?

Unfortunately , on eBay their is no such thing as "Seller does not accept returns" . The money back guarantee ebay offer's will override that 100 percent of the time.
Will you come across people like this buyer taking advantage of this : Yes , but 99.9 percent of the buyers are good people.
My advice is to accept returns if you want to sell on Ebay .

I haven't had very many if I have had any at all.
And I one million percent understand that if you receive something that isn't as described you should be entitled to a refund. But this specific case is different. The person either doesn't know how to use it or just wanted to borrow it for a wedding shoot. They weren't willing to even try using universally accepted settings to correct blur in photos to see if that fixed the problem.
I mean honestly it has me thinking. Why rent camera gear? You can just "buy it" off of ebay, use it for what you needed to, and then say that it doesn't work how you thought it would and then get a refund.

Yup. Welcome to one of the pitfalls of online sales. No selling method is perfect, and this is one of the downsides of buying sight unseen.
Build the occasional wonky return into your business plan and write the return shipping off as a business expense.

Except if you are smart enough to accept returns and a top rated seller you can keep 50% of the refund for yourself after getting your item back. That's the main reason it's not wise to not accept returns. So wise up!

There is no such thing as NO returns. No returns does not mean NO refunds. Important to read eBays 30 day Money Back Guarantee:
https://www.ebay.com/help/policies/ebay-money-back-guarantee-policy/ebay-money-back-guarantee-policy

Sellers can refuse Returns.
Sellers cannot refuse REFUNDS.
Sellers with No Returns policies can demand the return of the disputed purchase before refunding.
The seller will probably be told to send return shipping to the unhappy customer.

Yes, yes a person can do that and still be following policy on here. The same applies to books and clothing. Rent them for under 30 days then return for refund. Keep that in mind for anything else you chose to sell online. Best of luck to you....

Yup - I often wonder how many bogus returns book seller's may get.....why join a library............

Does not apply to all returns.
That up to 50% refund reduction has guidelines.

This is true with anything that is sold on eBay. In your situation be glad the person wants to return the item and is not trying to keep it and get a refund.
