I don't know if there is a better board to put this on or not.
So often people post on here with questions/complaints about transactions and many of you "veteran" ebay-ers ask for the item number. Are you guys actually searching for the item/transaction via item number, and if so, how. Or are you using item numbers to compare to item numbers presented in feedback? Or something different?
Been wondering for a while
Thanks

If it is a listing that is still active, you can put the listing number in the search box and hit enter and it will pull it up.
If it is a sold item, then you can just click into that seller's listing, then click on the filter on the left for Items Sold and you will be able to search those items for that listing number.

Just copy and paste the listing number in question into the search box.

Ok duhh. Thanks. I have never had the use for this but people always say it in the threads, I never realized I was searching active listings when these are sold items. Major brain fart, thank you!

You don't have to go to the seller's listings when searching on the listing number for a Sold item. You can do a regular search (which of course won't find it), and then click on "Sold" (or Completed) on the left hand side.

A lot of the time, listings that are ended don't show up in a completed items search. eBay only includes items that were ended "organically" (their word). Also, in my experience, active items that were started or revised recently don't show up in search either because they are indexing, and are not searchable until they have been indexed.
If you are having trouble finding an item by the number, you can paste the item number onto the end of this URL in the address bar of your browser, and as long as the listing has not been removed by eBay, this will find it:
If an item is not available because it ended more than 90 days ago or has been removed, sometimes you can find a cached page if you search for "eBay" and the item number on a search engine (like google, or Bing).

Not a problem. It happens to all of us from time to time. You are in good company.

I knew about
www.ebay.com/Usr/ enter user id to find a user.
Do you have anymore useful www.ebay.com/**** to find stuff?

@uthsupein0, those are not valid eBay item numbers.
They may be too old (more than 90 days), or they may have been removed by eBay.

Thank you. Appending the item number to that URL was the only way I could actually find this item on eBay USA. For some odd reason, it shows up on eBay Germany, even though the seller is in the USA, and does not ship overseas!?! So I decided to see what the deal is if I search for the item number on ebay.com, and.... nothing! It doesn't exist. Until I used your trick, and it appeared.
