Searching eBay

I'm new to the selling side of eBay, and I have loads of questions about how to find things.

1. How do I find out what category my items are listed under?  It seems eBay chooses one when you begin a new post based on the title you give to an item.  I can't see it listed on the item when I'm working on it, and I don't find a way to change it.

2. In order to check how a buyer would find my items, I did a search and had a very difficult time finding them.  (Of course, I found them right away with the advanced search by specific seller I.D.)  What does Search look at?  Just item titles? All text in the description? What?

3. There seems to be a lot of "categories" that aren't listed in any of the category lists.  For example, one of the detail fields I used was "Theme", which I listed as "Spices & Extracts" in all my items.  But that doesn't show up in any of the category listings.  I've also seen the phrase, "Spices & Extracts Advertising".  And that was shown as a subgroup of "Food & Beverage", which I have also been unable to find listed anywhere.  Does eBay have a guide to categories?

4. How do sellers make their items visible across multiple types of searches?  Is there a way of listing keywords in an item listing?  Or do you have to somehow incorporate them in the item description?  Can you specify multiple categories for the same listing?

I hope someone can help me with these questions.

Searching eBay

When you click on one of your listings the category is on the top of the page. Very few buyers search by categories. Typically, a buyer will just use search using the keywords for the name of the item.

@victocampbel85

1. It's the 4th item on the listing form. Look for the red asterisk and 'Category'. Play around with the hot button to the right.

2. I usually search by Title or key words.

3. I have no idea.

4. You have 80 characters... maybe use 'Farmhouse Decor' or 'Rustic' in the title. 4B. It'll cost more to list in 2 categories.

5. Since you're new to the selling side of eBay, I'll tell you that your shipping costs are really high, but they are yours to set. grimacing

Good luck to you here!
