Search at it's best!

I'm asking if I'm doing something wrong when doing a search or what the problem is so I don't get frustrated next time.

I bought a couple of things and tried to find them to compare comps for pricing before listing them yesterday. I had bought a Krups Cocktail Maker 2000 I searched Krups cocktail maker - 0 results. Krups Cocktail - 0 results - thought I had something rare!!! - entered the UPC here - 0 results - went to UPC lookup database - found a listing on Ebay - led me to one and then look at the 7 addition ones below in People also viewed. There are more than 7 listings - but none came up in search. When I put in Krups cocktail mixer - they came up - mind you 9 results  - those best match and the other Results matching fewer words - all have the words Krups, cocktail and maker in the title. All have 2000 except 1 - so why didn't search pick these up?

Today I search Krups Cocktail Maker and Cassini must remember my search - as today I get 11 results - even tho 12 items are show in Best Match. Needless to say - this will be donated as it's not worth my time and effort.

Also on Internet Explorer - when I put in Ebay.com - I get a white page with the categories listed on the right and when you scroll down to where your previous searches appear - I have giant arrows. Foxfire displays the main page as normal.

Using advanced search options will alleviate 90% of your problems

Krups Cocktail Maker gave me 11 results and Krups Cocktail Mixer gave me 7 results.

Did you look at the default search category on the left to see if you were stuck in the wrong category from a previous search? Did you look at the search bar at the top to make sure you were searching all of eBay and not a specific seller or category?

Low cost item with zero Sold results - donating is a good call.

Yep - I know enough to check defaults before search - I was searching all categories - but this isn't the first time I haven't been able to locate something here.

With all user-controlled aspects input properly the answer is faulty search. It happens to me, too and you solved it the same way I do which is a Google search.

Krups cocktail mixer / I also got 7 results in all cats. but I have had problems with search intermitently for the last several weeks with occasional zero results.

I would make sure your filters were set okay and that you were not searching your own store rather than the general ebay search (At times one of our employees was not seeing everything and somehow it was set to search our own store).

With that said, I completely believe that your problem could be authentic. I've personally seen our items not coming up in search properly. I've searched for the MPN directly, no results. Other times I search for the MPN directly, and OTHER listings come up, but ours are in "Match fewer" - even though both our listing and theirs ONLY lists it in MPN!

Other times I searched an item, which ours has the code in MPN as well as other part#, a competitor only has it in Other part #, and theirs shows up while ours is "Match fewer" or not visible at all.

It might help if you add your issues to that thread, as I think the more people we can have saying "YES these problems are real!", the harder it is for eBay to deny it.

Something's definitely going on. I just did a search and it said "887 results" but it won't display more than 26 items. They're not grouped by product, they're just missing.

I just did it 2x with krups cocktail mixer- 1st result was "0" then they showed me some spelled "krupps", 2nd time I got 7 listings! I am sure if I log out and search from my other account I will get different results, this has been the norm for almost a year!

Using advanced search options will alleviate 90% of your problems

For me today, the advanced search was worse.  I search for a particular item.  Using the advanced search, you are able to "exclude words" so they say.   All you have to do is change the sort from best match to ending soonest or newly listed and all those "excluded words" are ignored.  

I suppose they don't want you to miss out on all those things you didn't want to see in the first place.

I shake up my search occasionally.  My usual search is under ALL CATEGORIES, as the things I search for could be found under several different categories.  

But instead of all categories, newly listed, I switched to all categories, highest first.  I could see that the results were incorrect as I know what is listed~there are some listings that are thousands of dollars  and much more than the number of listings shown.  This is just for my amusement!

So I switched to dolls and bears, and there were all the listings I knew should be there.

Most don't search categories; they search all categories.  If that isn't showing up all category results as it is supposed to, as searchers expect it to, then many listings aren't being seen because they are not being shown.

I've never been thrilled with Cassini but have been able to work with it until the past year where I do feel what ever programming changes they have made to it have made it worse. 

I appreciate all the comments and I would be the first one to say I had a blond moment - which happens - but this situation was real and it's happened a couple of times in the past few weeks. I used all categories, no filters and was not viewing items in my store. As a matter of fact - I was searching using this ID on IE -  not my store ID - as I usually just bookmark the pages to reference when I go back to list an item.

I've also had no problems usually searching for others items when they report they can't find their items - but occasionally - a few of us have not been able to find a poster's item when we do a search.

My wife and I have our own desks and PC`s side by side. A few years back I was griping to her about ebay search. We experimented on our seperate accounts. We searched for identical items with identical keywords and no filters except "price+shipping lowest". We both have the same shipping address on file with ebay yet we were shown different search results each and everytime.
