$$$ Scrounge Lounge - October 2018 $$$

Welcome to the Scrounge Lounge October 2018 Edition

Harvestig Sales still seems fitting. As the leaves change to autumn colors may the widgets turn green!

Our History: The Scrounge Lounge formed on the old Auction Listings board in 2003.

Who are we? Ebay buyers and sellers who love the thrill of the hunt.

We find treasures in the usual, and at times, unusual places.

Here in the Lounge we share our finds, talk about sales, share our successes and our mistakes, we ask and answer questions, help identify widgets, and we'd love to hear about all your scrounging adventures!

Re: $$$ Scrounge Lounge - October 2018 $$$

No scrounging this morning. We have a nor'easter blowing through, heavy rain and strong wind gusts. Looks like the worst of it is about gone. It should clear up later this afternoon.

Sun, I guess that the ink cartridges are popular. Believe me, I was surprised the first time I listed them. We went though a lot of ink at work (that's where most of them came from) but my mother and I use the same ink so I will continue saving them.

M*M, hope you get the belt on the washer soon.

Kay, how are you feeling about those 'fake bombs' now?
Appointment Monday for the new washer belt. A rubber belt..only one on a washing machine, and those jack/wads told me I should buy a new washer. I'm sick of American incompetence. Can you imagine how much WORSE it could be? LOL

Re: $$$ Scrounge Lounge - October 2018 $$$

Kay, I have been thinking about what you said about your DH and the obsolescence of skills or later ones becoming more tech oriented.  I've noticed at some of the technical colleges around here, they offer courses to update skills in plumbing, electrical, mechanics, etc.  Do you have something like that in your area?  Sort of like continuing education.  When my DH changed course, same area but a different perspective, he took some courses to update his knowledge in various areas.  Even today, he would need to update his skill set again.

I think about a couple of pilots in the family.  One started out flying F130s then transitioned to Air Jordan jets then to Boeing 735s then to Copa Air jets then back to teaching Boeing 735 simulators.  Another started out on single man jets then to F16s then to F22s.  Each of these transitions necessitated an upgrade in knowledge.

In looking around here, all the ads show a required knowledge of computer testing / diagnostics.

Just a thought...

M*M, thanks for the Y update and it is great you are going to get your washer backer next week.  DH would be lost if he couldn't do his little loads of wash frequently.

DD and Miss Elsie came to pick up some house plants and go to lunch today.  Miss Elsie has really grown and is quite adept at conversations about T-ball, baseball and is going to play basketball this winter.

Kay, the storm you are getting is the tail end of Willa, the hurricane that came in thru western Mexico.  It came thru here Thursday and Friday.

Re: $$$ Scrounge Lounge - October 2018 $$$

Thanks, Kay, Patd, he should be here any time now! It's Monday! yippeee. I have so much laundry to do...and finish up a penny order, 1200 of them and some bonuses too. Takes longer than one thinks it would ... and this buyer keeps bugging me about feedback, at least twice now...and telling me to let him know when it is sent and to give him the tracking number. I told him he will see that when it's uploaded and SENT. (and more comments like "Oh Ok, I haven't seen it yet"....uh, because it's not SENT YET. You'd think he'd know that, by now, all buying fb! Are people getting stupider or am I just lucky or so much less patient with people? Good LORD! /vent. TY. If I had another person here to vent to..... LOL My cat isn't a very good listener..
Oh, Y sent a pic, will post it later.

Re: $$$ Scrounge Lounge - October 2018 $$$

that's over 1900 fb!
Still waiting but the count is almost done, now to find 50 or so 20s and 30s, can't find the bag they were in. Going hunting in the basement or I stashed them somewhere, God only knows. that's what happens when it's ages between sales.
Sunny here today but chilly. Going to put the stable-izer in the mowers and get them put away so I can get the car in the garage.

Re: $$$ Scrounge Lounge - October 2018 $$$

Auction ended yesterday. Woke up to an email from PP that said: We’re taking a closer look at this payment. It’s required for some payments and normally takes up to 24 hours. Don’t ship until we tell you it’s ok.

In PP it looks like payment is received just being held from me, which is normal these days right? It's all so different than what I'm used to, so I called PP and indeed, they said don't ship yet. That's the first time other than an e-check that I had to wait for payment to clear.

So what does that do to one-day handling?
It doesn't really matter. I'm more curious than anything if this is a common occurance or I just got lucky.

Patd, thank you for your thoughts. They are viable. Part of the problem is DH has one eye on retirement. After 30+ years he's content being out of automotive. He still gets dirty on occasion helping his buddies. But right now he's trying to line up gigs driving vehicles south for snowbirds that plan to winter in Florida. And, happy as a clam, so for now I'm being supportive. There are irons in the fire just not the typical ones.

Re: $$$ Scrounge Lounge - October 2018 $$$

M*M, hope you find your pennies. 1200 is a lot of counting.
I have probably a couple hundred wheat pennies, would it be worth listing? I should probably check with my father. He'd probably want to keep them. For me they just take up space.

I have some silver coins from my grandmother. They were in an old piggy bank. Spare change back in the day. Those would probably be worth selling, but I don't know if I want to give 'em up.

I don't understand that message.
Random spam? Through ebay messages?

Oh, just remembered. Spoke with my nephew last night. He lives in Florida and was asking for advice about an email he received in response to a car for sale. Looked legit, sounded like english was the first language. None of the tell tale signs of a scam. My first advice was NO MONEY exchanged until you see the car and verify the title. But then I checked KBB for value. The car is worth $8-10,000 dollars, being sold for $1800 because of "bad memories attached" yeah, right. Crisis averted.

Re: $$$ Scrounge Lounge - October 2018 $$$

Kay, hi. That came from board messages, so, here, since I only post here.

Paypal is good for looking out for one, it could be because you just started selling again and the amount.

Those cartridges are a little gold mine aren't they! NIce!

Depends on what you have, regarding the pennies. Look for S mints, you'll need a loupe, very hard to see the mint mark, some D's look like S's with my eyes.  D is good though, also condition. Unreadable dates are worthless, so are dinged rims.  A better than good penny you'll be able to see all the lines on the wheat leaves on the reverse side.

Good luck on the silver coins. Like I said the other day, the off ebay companies ebay so graciously advertises for were selling for 50 cents what I had 9.99 on lol.. Good Grief.  I just went by the price Steve had on them, from about 10 years ago and added a couple bucks.  At that price, melt would be more profitable.  Whatever I can't sell I'm taking to the coin shop in town and see what he will offer, including some mint sets,  quarter sets, can't sell those either.

WELL. One more day for the washer! Needed another part the regular guy didn't see! And the booking service wrote down the wrong time so by 12:45 I called to see if they were nearby, he was, so I put a note on the door and ran to the PO quick and he was here when I got back.  Some wheel part the belt rides on was totally worn out. One More Day. omg I think I can!

Good call on the car. That's quite a difference. Some ppl have more money than brains tho. (sorry but true!)

M*M, too bad the guy didn't see the worn part the first time. Fingers crossed it's one more day.

One of these days I'll pull out the pennies and check the quality and mint marks. I do have a loupe. My eyes are not what they used to be.

Re: $$$ Scrounge Lounge - October 2018 $$$

Kay I had that happen to a payment a long time ago. Sometimes the payment does not clear. Maybe a stolen credit card or a problem with the bank. Hard to say. I would not worry about the stars right now. Wait until paypal tells you it is ok or not. Hard when they do not explain what is going on.

Good idea.  I have a friend who drives hgh end cars to car shows.  He might want to look at that, too.
