Scammer?

Hi everyone and good morning.  I just got paid for a 95.00 handbag.  The buyer has no feedback and no purchase history.  I google earthed her location and then I put her location into Zillow and the two "houses" don't match.  I don't want to get scammed so I decided to cancel the shipping label for today .  The package is going to Easton, MD.  Thoughts?  Thanks, Diane (fudgelay01)

Diane, if your buyer paid and truly paid then you must ship. Everyone here started with 0, buyer probably liked your bag and signed up to get it, fair is fair.

I am not sure what "matches" means....

but did you consider that there might be an error with the mapping on google earth and/or Zillow?

From what you have said, it doesn't rise to the level of cancelling an order....but if you are not comfortable, I guess you have your own level of tolerance....

careful though, cancelling orders on "0" feedback/guest buyers...especially if they decide to contact ebay about why it was cancelled

As stated above... You must ship. Several people have recently posted and were in the same boat. If you are uncomfortable with a buyer, fine, but if that customer hasn't done anything wrong in that transaction, why surreptitiously punish them for having an address you find " sketchy"?

To be sure, there are plenty of scammers out there, but don't create them in your mind. It won't be a good business model for you to be getting sanctioned for canceling perfectly legit transactions.

Thanks all, taking the rest of the day to consider all the feedback.

agreed 100%, a house I own is incorrectly shown on many sites including the all-knowing google maps.

did you use the same city and state in your search?

If you ship, spend the $3.10 for signature required through USPS.

IMHO, that's a terrible idea. It provides no additional protection for the seller, and by inconveniencing the buyer you could ruin the whole transaction or at least get bad feedback.

Regarding Google maps, don't take it at face value: it shows my cousin's home as a construction site even though he has lived in the house for 3 years.

I think folks need to stop looking up things on google

what if we looked up the phrase "to fudge it"

all of a sudden that would put you in a bad light

do you see what I mean? many things on google dont sound correct just like your name

everybody is overthinking things that are just ordinary

Simple search: "The crime rate in Easton, MD is considerably higher than the national average"

Give it a kiss before you ship it; cause you'll likely never see it again or the money!

Rule #`1 for online selling, never sell anything you'd worry, be upset about, if it were stolen..because it eventually will happen.

Email the buyer about the address concern; you'll learn a lot from the reply. You'll either feel good about shipping it or know it's better to take a negative than to lose the item. You are "expected" to complete the sale, but there is no legal obligation to do so; buyers and sellers can "change their mind" and that's built into the ebay system.

Bologna!

I've had plenty of sellers back out of the deal for various reasons. NO SELLER is required by law to ship anything!

WalMart has cancelled multiple purchases of mine just in the last month!

Not shipping may, will, have negative consequences, but you accept that by not shipping. Lesson learned though...do not list items that would cause you to be upset if it were stolen because it is very easy to steal things from ebay sellers.

To sell valuable items, sell locally, accept cash only and complete the transaction in a police station parking lot. Our police station advises people to complete transactions in the parking lot in front of the building with camera's watching and cops coming and going 24x7.

Note: ebay gives the seller 3 days to back out of the transaction.

Is there a phone number?

Call it, say "the boss" makes you verify all orders of that price. If they can't immediately rattle off their address or tell you what they ordered then you know there is something wrong. People going nuts on stolen cards shipping to empty houses usually don't have that drop address memorized like their home address, nor will they be able to immediately say what they bought.

You reminded me of a local story. UPS, FedEx, USPS filling the porch of a "for sale" house every day and every night a van picks up the packages...long story short, neighbors called the cops...the person doing the picking up was "working" for a company based in India. They would collect the packages, open them, bundle the contents in fewer boxes, ship them to India and get paid for their "work" once they provided tracking.

Haven't looked in a while, but I think you can still find these "jobs" online.

2....1...0 - Correct... Sellers can back out of any transaction, sure. How many times should they do that  before they go ×× poof××?

I stand by what I said. But, I now crave a fried bologna sandwich, so thanks for that, anyway.😀
