@naplesy   Yes it is a scam ... if the item is in your Sold file but not paid for use the little pull down menu and at the bottom (in the My eBay Selling page version) is "Report this Buyer ...

If you text then they have your cell phone number ... NOT good ...

Actually, the scam is they'll likely hit you up to include gift cards with some sob story. Rules to consider (1) we're not allowed to communicate with customers outside eBay's platform, (2) see rule #1. They're offering to pay more than listed? Definite scam. I'm going to assume their request includes the word "kindly"? Report them or ignore. You're likely a new seller? They seem to smell fresh blood, avoid these people and get back to listing 🙂 Cheers!

Your feeling is correct... it's a SCAM.

This is the fourth or fifth time I've posted this today.

Please, read it ALL.

Anytime a buyer wants you to text or email them, it is a SCAM.
Do not engage with them at all. Give them no information.

Report the "buyer"

Block https://offer.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?bidderblocklogin

Ignore

The whole idea is for the seller to be blinded with greed, or just stupidity, and for the scammer to get the seller's phone number or email address. Once that happens, the seller receives a very real looking, but very fake email stating that they have been paid, and in order to receive their funds they need to ship the item right away. Sometimes these emails will also have a phone number, for the seller to call and "verify" the transaction. That phone number is a direct line to the scammer.

These scammers depend on a seller's greed/naivete/ignorance/stupidity to ship the item without checking to see if they have actually been paid. It works surprisingly well, even with established sellers, because for some strange reason people want to "trust" emails.

There is no reason on this planet for a buyer to need a seller's email address, phone number, or any sort of financial/payment information. Everything a buyer needs is right there when they click the buy now button on a listing.

In addition to the above, anyone asking for a gift card to be included is a SCAMMER. Anyone offering to pay more for an item than the listing price is a SCAMMER. Anyone making an offer higher than the buy it now price is a SCAMMER.

The easier you are to offend the easier you are to control.

We seem to be getting closer and closer to a situation where nobody is responsible for what they did but we are all responsible for what somebody else did. - Thomas Sowell

the best way to deal with buyers like these are to use the tools avilable, that would be the UPI or NPB,it is always best to follow thru with it,needing your phone number should not slow down any  payment process,if they do not pay you can file for your fees

These people must be coming out of the woodwork now because of COVID and job losses and they are trying even more to scam sellers. I am not surprised.

@naplesy

This is another one of the oldest scams here on eBay! Avoid this at all costs or it will end up costing you! So glad you didn't fall for this scam.

The buyer is hoping to get your  email address so that they can send you a dummy "invoice" that will really look like it came from eBay, asking you to add a gift card and they will pay you for it.  The buyer  will take the numbers from them and cash out and you will not be able to get you money back! Then the buyer disappears. You loose everything.

They will send you fake Paypal invoices and paid emails, hoping that you will send without checking.

Never agree to send to another address that isn't registered with eBay, you will loose what little protection you have if you do that. Don't ever agree to do business off of eBay. This is part of the scam!

Block the buyer, stop messaging them and run!

Here are eBay’s links to info on scams:

https://pages.ebay.com/securitycenter/stay_safe.html#recognize_scams

As for a buyer reporting your item as counterfeit and eBay taking it down just because it was reported, I am not sure what to say about that. It usually takes more than just a quick report. You may want to contact eBay on that one.

Hope this helps!
