I created an eBay account this afternoon to sell a pair of headphones. I listed the item and about an hour later I received an offer of $300. This offer was higher than I expected anyone to offer, so I excitedly accepted it. The buyer messaged me through eBay asking me to e-mail or text him so we can discuss details. So I texted him, and he asked me for my PayPal email address to deposit the fund. I gave him my email, but then he asked me to ship the headphones to Florida (on eBay it said he was from Massachusetts) along with an eBay gift card of $200. He said he would pay me $530 for the headphones, the gift cards, and shipping. I told him I would prefer to only send him the headphones for $300, which was what he offered and I accepted on eBay. However, he said that it would help him greatly if I included the gift card in the package, so I agreed. He said he would update me when he is done with the payment.
But now I am starting to have second thoughts about the deal because it sounds like a scam. I haven't sent him the package yet and he hasn't sent me any money through PayPal, so is there any way I can cancel the deal entirely? Thanks

OF COURSE it's a scam! Cancel the sale using "problem with buyers address" and put this buyer on your blocked buyer list NOW.

100% a scam
Never give out your Paypal email or deal with people outside ebay
Stop all communications with the scammer now
Don't send anything .
I would suggest you learn a bit more about selling before listing anything worth that amount of money, Thankfully you lucked out this time
You list a buyer purchases and ebay sends an end of sale notification.
They pay you check paypal make sure money is there & ship to only the address on the Payment transaction page

Yup a scam. They send fake paypal emails and talk to you off eBay. Gift card is a scam also. They always pick on new accounts.

Did s/he ask you to stop and get a loaf of bread on the way to the post office and mail it along with the headphones? Or maybe mail the package to his/her son who's gone to ground to avoid the upcoming draft?
Yeah. Total scam.
These scammers prey on sellers' greed. It's like the dog with the bone:

scammers will send a Phishing PayPal email and a SHIP NOW email also. You think you got paid but if you check your PayPal online you will see nothing. scammers also will have a PayPal account using a bank with no money in it. You will get a real PAYMENT PENDING email (paypal waiting for the money transfer that never happens) and a fake email to SHIP NOW!!! Newbies usually ship and kiss their money and item goodbye. You can sell 500 items on eBay and never have to talk to the buyer. Good luck

You put yourself in a bad position here. If you try to operate without experience, knowledge, patience, and decent resources, you will be tempted to get greedy and throw common sense out the window. It never works. You got very lucky here. If you choose to continue online, read all you can and come here for ideas that will help.

Yes ,, its a scam with a capital S ! Do not do one more thing with this '' buyer '' except cancel the sale and then block him. Since you're a new seller and especially if you plan to continue it would be in your best interests to come to these forums for advice before you take any steps that make you even the least uncomfortable . The same thing just happened to me! They sent a very convincing email that looked like it was from Paypal and even directed to the website. After reading this... I'm going to cancel the buyer and notify both Paypal and EBay.

Hopefully, you did not click on that link or fill out any log in information. Chances are pretty good that the link was NOT to PayPal, and you have now given over your log in credentials as well. You need to take care of that should this be the case.
