Scam Buyer

I had a camera and lens in a ten day auction. Both auctions were "won" by a buyer with a 100% feedback rating. Each winning bid was almost $2000. Ebay, as usual, sent me name and address to ship to.

After the close, I received two emails requesting both items be shipped to a new address where the person's "ill sister" lived. However each message was sent using a different ebay user name - neither was the one named by eBay on the sold page. Although both addresses were the same, the person I was to ship to was different in each case.  Again, neither name was the same as the person identified by ebay as the winner.

I checked the address and the "ill sister" lives at a company headquarters in Wilmington, Delaware, it seems.

I wanted to write to eBay but the options given to make a complaint didn't match my issue.

After a lot of searching on these forums (thank you), I was able to figure out how to cancel the sales and ebay has automatically relisted both items.

The original "buyer" with the 100% rating keeps making offers. I want him/her to go away,  care for his/her sister, and leave me alone. Any idea how I can alert  eBay to this scammer? Also, do you think he/she has hijacked a legitimate person's ebay identity and credit card? If so, I'd like to let them know.

Thanks.

Re: Scam Buyer

I was able to get a callback from  a real person who took down all the info. Of course the false accounts are now history anyway. But thank you for the info.

Re: Scam Buyer

"ill sister" lives at a company headquarters in Wilmington, Delaware, it seems.

There are a lot of freight forwarders in Delaware as well as Doral FL. Many in West Coast cities too.

Their business is to receive purchases from overseas buyers, cover the import costs for the buyer's nation, and re-ship them.

Like many honest businesses, they are plagued by dishonest customers. And since the sellers don't understand that , the reviews of these businesses are usually pretty bad.

But eBay does help sellers  with these.

When tracking shows delivery to the forwarder, the seller's responsibility for delivery ends. No INR claim is possible. Maybe, maybe not, eBay has waffled on this a number of times

When the purchase arrives overseas, duty and taxes have already been paid, so that scam doesn't work. That may or may not be the case it depends o the individual FF.

And if a Not As Described claim is laid, the seller can still demand return before refund, but only has to send Return Shipping to the US address.

Don't forget in the face of a chargeback eBay's policies mean nothing and are not even factored into the CC's decision regarding the chargeback. For INR chargebacks if you cannot prove delivery to the buyers address (not the FF) you are going to loose the chargeback. In the face of a NAD you are going to loose and the CC will not care or require the buyer to return the item.

The above being said I have sold and shipped a number of items through FF's with little problem or issue but I have also canceled a number of sales, citing problem with the buyers address,  that were going through FF's where the buyer was in a country that I refuse to sell to for multiple reasons most of which involve risk.
