I sold and shipped on time an item. The shipping label was purchased via eBay. USPS shows item was delivered today. Today I got an email from the buyer stating this: "Sed me my money back the mail lady came today and she told me she had nothing".
Of course I assume "Sed" means "Send"
How would you respond? Do I need to do anything?

@roncraw-42 wrote:I have had this happen to me a few times...scammer likely. If it is less than $20, I just refund it, not worth my time. Higher ticket items, I will check it out with the post office and try to work with the customer. Unfortunately, they always win.....mostly. Good luck.
And that is why some buyers do this. They know there are sellers that will allow them to win. Giving into them just adds to the problem.
You are incorrect that buyers win this kind of action. When the seller ships to the address on the order and the tracking shows it is delivered or if the tracking shows the item was undeliverable as address or the buyer refused the delivery. All those reasons means that if a buyer files an INR, they will NOT win. The seller is covered by seller protection.
So you are just giving away your money when you don't have to because the buyer has no way to force you to refund.

Just had a case of the seller inputting the WRONG tracking number. It showed my item delivered, which it was not. I opened a case with the USPS, which actually investigated and called me with the result.
The tracking number was for a different buyer. The seller finally offered up a different tracking number, and the package might be here tomorrow or the next day,,,from AMAZON. There are many reasons why an item may be said to be delivered...neighbor up the hill got our package from Chewy but brought it to us...what if he had just kept it?
We have, over the years, gotten many packages for our neighbors. The PO is not infallible, so those tracking numbers are not either.

I would politely explain to the buyer that this has happened in the past, the post office sometimes scans things prematurely and that if they wait a couple days it should be delivered. They should also check with family members and neighbors to make sure someone else did not get it.
If they persist, I would tell them that they should file an "Item Not Received" dispute with eBay in order to initiate the process.
Hopefully they do, and you can provide the tracking number in response and get it closed.
