I would never ship to a different address requested in regular (non-ebay) email.
But if someone asks through ebay messages, is it safe? Will ebay have my back in an item not received claim if it shows delivered to the other address, since they can see it in messages?

The proper shipping address is the one on the order... not simply one mentioned in messages.
If you're asking after the fact, you can always cancel as 'problems with buyer's address' and relist for your buyer. The buyer needs to put the proper address on the order at checkout.
Good luck!

NO
eBay at one time said they have your back in a situation where a request has been made in eBay messages, but they no longer support that, and PP never did, so really a moot point.
And then there is of course verifying that the request is from the "actual buyer" if you so chose to take the risk without backing.

Thanks. I had a vague memory that it was OK, but that was from a long time ago. I suspected it might no longer be the case, so I haven't shipped it yet. Was waiting for an official answer from an ebay employee.
Thanks for the fast replies.

In certain cases and depending on the item, that is a known scam to "send you a message via ebay", to ship to another address. That is how I get you to ship me your 'thing' without me even paying for it. Basically theft.
So, as others have stated, no- you will not be covered.

Trust me. Believe me. Have we heard that before? Trust what has been posted. When a "blue" gets a chance to reply, the answer will be the same. Blues have posted in other threads that eBay will no longer cover you in the event of shipping to an address other than provided at checkout.
I have on rare occasion shipped to a different address, but little money was involved, and that was not recently since the eBay unwritten policy change.

Oh, I believe you.
I just meant I hadn't shipped it yet before I started this thread because I was waiting for an answer from them.

@carlqsportscards to be eligible for seller protections sellers must ship the item to the address that the buyer provided at checkout (so the one that appears on the Order Details page). You'll find this information in the seller protections policy.

Nope. I believe this was confirmed a few months ago. However, it was never publicly announced to all sellers... just in this board.

The PP rule for shipping has ALWAYS been you must ship to the address on the payment notification if you want to retain seller protection in PP.
Ebay is the one that changed their rule a few months back. The rules use to be if you got an email in the Ebay system where the buyer asked you to change the ship to address, you could do that and retain seller protection on INR's. So it did conflict with the PP rule. And if a seller did this, they while they would be covered in Ebay, they would not be covered in PP.
Ebay has since changed the Ebay rule to match up with PP's. So it just isn't in a seller's best interest to ship to any address other than that which appears on the payment notification.
Something VERY important to remember is that the ship to address on the payment notification may differ from the address that appears on the Purchase Record BEFORE payment is submitted. So we all must be careful not to get ahead of ourselves and package or address things before we get the payment notification because the buyer may need it shipped to another address.
I use to ship stuff to my mom and to my daughter when she was away at college. Just a couple examples how this could happen.
