Afternoon Folks,
This is why Ebay is DYING for SMALL Sellers.
If any of you follow my comments you know, from a few posts I made last week, that I made A LOT of purchases recently and mostly from small sellers.
Here is just a few of my experiences from these orders:
1) Purchased a BEAUTIFUL wall lamp to match another for the cabin. Item came loosely packed in an untaped, unsecured box slipped into a thin vinly mailer...no bubble wrap...nothing. Item arrived with package "clunking" and once I opened the flimsy mailer jacket the light is damaged beyond junk.
2) Purchased expensive sandpaper...came in manilla envelope...inside...damp to almost wet pack of paper rewrapped and short on paper with paper almost useless because it is not wet paper...it's for wood...cost a dollar a sheet.
3) Purchased a different pack of paper like above...different grit from different vendor. Not packaged at all, label simply taped over the store jacket that actually allows 30 to 40% of the paper literally exposed. Tape was over the back side and front, sticking to paper.
4) Purchased 10 male end connectors for commericial electrical cording...product was shaking around inside box...opened to find a nice note with 2 extras...for a total of 12...but no packaging...screws loose and product scruffed up from bouncing around in box.
5) Purchased 250' Roll M/C Electrical cable...was delivered by Lowes (didn't order from Lowes). Product well packaged and came quickly.
6) Purchased specialty hinges...bunched together...no protective packaging...stuffed in Flat Rate USPS bubble mailer.
7) Purchased specialty cabinet leg levelers...15 Inside a box...5 laid on top of box...no extra padding or protection slipped in Tyvek USPS envelope with the extra 5 subject to the mercy of the elements and USPS handling.
😎 2 Tires for Mrs C car...supposed to be here today....no tires and still haven't shipped.
9) 5 large packs of sandpaper from different vendor...well packaged in P/Mail box...excellent seller.
10) 2' x 3' MD decorative aluminum panel...shipped from H/Depot...damaged beyond repair...came in over size flat box...unsecured inside resulting in it slicing it's way out of the box.
So...based on discussing the above few items...no wonder folks are prone to be cranky as buyers.
In closing who would:
a) Take all the time necessary to contact each seller to give them a chance to resolve
OR
b) Just Simply open a bunch of SNAD's where applicable

There have been middle men selling jacking up prices on items for 80+ years. Instead of door to door or cold calling, now you come to them.
Morning Angela,
Actually I did check those prices and you know what I never complained about goods being dropped shipped anywhere in this thread from H/D or Lowes.
Matter of fact...the pricing from Lowes for the 250' piece of wire was lower here than the product listed at Lowes so I DID do my due diligence. So I WON on pricing AND SERVICE.
You also probably are not aware that H/D is becoming somewhat of an Amazon right? Thousands of Thousands of their products are not even available through their stores. They now have many vendors lined up behind the scenes for products they now simply have SOURCED and DO NOT inventory at all...in that sense they are working like a giant DROP SHIPPER...who' a thunk.

Scamming buyer~~there is NO way that could have happened, so it must be you!
We see many threads that sales are down.
Hi Castle,
Here is one picture I can share...the others have packaging info and someone may want to zoom in on it to read it so I will not post that one and I don't know how you folks do that squiggly line over things so you can't see stuff.

Morning Folks,
Up until now I have either left no feedback in all the original purchases or I have left positives making sure those that went above and beyond are properly recognized.
This morning I woke to the "pleasant" surprise of a "False Positive" feedback from the above seller...hmm...it took awhile but I finally decided to leave a negative. This is what I said:
Arrived wet, damaged, not new, can not return, difficult seller
The light fixture seller was kind enough to contact me after they saw the tracking on the return packge they accepted (you know the one where I was encouraged to turn the damaged areas toward the wall) and issued a complete refund even before they get it back.
Prone to not leave any feedback...will not leave negative...yet can not find enough merit to leave a positive either.

Mr C ...
Good Morning!
Make sure to report that false positive 😞
If you opened a SNAD return, make sure to escalate it and let him get a nice "unresolved" strike to go with your neg ... this is exactly the type of seller we don't need around here 😞

Mornin Penguin,
You know...I actually have NO IDEA what is going on here ever since the change up this fall.
I honestly have no idea if I opened a SNAD...with so many drop down choices...I chose "Request A Return" then it gave me about 10 or 12 choices of why...so I chose not as "Doesn't Match Description or Photo" (never seen these choices before).
I have no idea how to challenge the False Positive Feedback...in addition to this, seller declined my return and ebay says they have I think to the 17th to resolve...then I can ask ebay to step in.
From reading all these posts here about sellers talking about "Unfair" returns...I have been under the impression that sellers needed to get off their hiney and deal with this asap...seems ebay thinks Mr C is a cool guy and really does want to work this out and have placed barriers for this to be expediteted especially after seller declines return and actually gets nasty.

OK ... to clarify 🙂
You opened a return request with an INAD reason code.
This request is not yet a "Case".
The seller has 3 days to either accept the return (and issue a pre-paid label) or to come to some sort of resolution that is agreeable to both parties.
If they do not (which is what your seller is doing by digging in his heels), you can "ask eBay to Step in" ... usually at day 4.
This escalates the "return request" into a "Case" and will usually be found in the buyer's favor immediately. You get your money back (all of it) and the seller gets a big defect.
To report the false positive, you may have to call ...

This whole thread is interesting to me, because I mostly sell clothing & baby gifts, as well as cosmetics. I wrap all my items in colored tissue paper, often then in bubble wrap, and colored poly mailers or priority boxes. I often wonder if all that time and expense is worth it. I guess yes.
I do have a nice number of repeat customers, and some customers mention my packing in feedback. I am especially careful because people can slice open packaging (as someone mentioned earlier-ruining a silk blouse), plus since a large percentage of my customers are female, I feel they care about aesthetics and it makes it a nicer experience.
Have to be careful with that colored tissue paper. Yeah it looks nice but if it gets wet it will bleed onto the clothes.
I use plastic bread bags for clothes and then seal it with deocorative tape

Well Thank You Penguin,
Having never had an ebay based return in all my years selling here I really only have some head knowledge with how it works and that now seems to have changed completely with this new fall update/changes.
As folks may remember, I did have a return early in the year regarding a defective grinder drop shipped from Amazon as a gift using the sellers personal prime account...but the process was much different even though that was maybe just 10 months ago.

Mr C, you have to escalate this as soon as possible (11/17 I think I read?). Much like a non-paying bidder, this cruddy seller needs to be defected off the site. Oh and he'll get another policy violation strike for the false positive.
I hope it was worth it for him.

Hi Joe,
Okay...well I have gone back to the non case I guess is what we would call it...or technically it simply is a "Request" right now.
It seems there are NO options left to me to deal with this until at least the 17th.
It doesn't even give me an option to add/comment to the "Request".
When I first started the return request ebay told me they would let the seller know.
About 10 minutes later I get a $3 partial refund offer. I declined...I am not looking for partials and am adverse to this as a seller anyhow. The seller was not very professional when offering it to begin with and even if I had accepted it they would think I was simply fabricating something for a refund...NOT
Now seller is pzzed and digging in and consulting with everyone BUT me about what REALLY happened...sigh.
It's aggravating enough to simply throw the towel in and say whatever...and simply walk away yet...it's wrong plain and simple.
Over the years I have advised folks to "Pick Their Battles" unfortunately this is one I don't want and isn't worth it for either of us except it hurts all of us as good sellers. Seems they need to learn not to pee upwind!

Oh MY Folks,
Re: Wall Lamp purchased for Mrs C's birthday.
Seller has relisted the item and used MY photo of the shade damage in the new listing suggesting buyers could turn shade towards wall to hide the damage.
My return has not made it back to the seller yet.

Sorry, and with all due respect, but if you check the thread, the price was never an issue. Chastising the OP is inappropriate under the circumstances as you are ascribing a problem to him that does not exist.

Mr C!
You know you can call Ebay CS and get that false positive removed, right?
They will remove it and the seller will get a violation.
And you can return the wet, damaged, containing less that is should sandpaper. As you know, you can open a not as described case and the seller will either need to take the return and pay for the return shipping, or simply refund the purchase price and original shipping to you.
It sounds like he will be obstinate up til the end, and so he will get a case closed without seller resolution defect.
There is no reason for you to be out money for damaged product and be called a liar to boot. I would note that in the case as well.

As another poster noted, but for your sterling reputation and integrity that is well known, this would be a thread by a seller about the lying, low down, scamming buyer because there is no way in the world the item arrived damage, the buyer did this, or didn't do this and is fabricating this because he just wants a refund.
When is Ebay going to do something about this? There is NO seller protection.
Lather, rinse, repeat.

Trying to understand the point?
So all sellers are either incompetent or lairs and should never be believed?
Seems to me a better approach is evaluate each situation on it's own rather than use Mr. C's unfortunate transaction(s) as a generalization of all ebay sellers (and of course the same goes for ebay buyers). As a buyer my experience with ebay sellers has been almost all very positive - my experience as a mail order buyer with Depot, wally & etc, not so much, but ymmv always applies.
