How can anyone sell on Ebay with a shipping price of $ 17.10 priority mail for a 2 pound package from Virginia to California 23139 to 93449 ? How much price increases until you can't? Everything I sell on Ebay costs more to ship than the price of the item

The Regional boxes have rates for 9 Zones, just like all other Priority Mail. Currently USPS is proposing to discontinue the Regional boxes next year.

...And maybe USPS wants/needs to slow demand by raising prices. Just wanted to add that one in there.

It ends up being case-by-case - UPS doesn't deliver to all addresses, and even if they do, all addresses can't receive it (nowhere to leave the package, the individual has to travel to pick up the item, rather than just pick it up at their local postal station), though I will use UPS if I know the buyer can actually receive the item at wherever they live.

UPS is fine if they don't hit you with unilateral additions. Historically the cost you get when you create a UPS label on eBay is an estimate and UPS is notorious for surcharges after the package is delivered.

Never noticed the small difference since I am on the east coast and zones 1-5 only vary by a few cents on the actual, as compared to the retail rates. I was aware that the rate went up considerably for zones 6-8 to the point that the medium flat rate box is about as economical especially if the item exceeds the 15 pound limit for a regional box A or 20 pounds for a regional box B. This is the reason I generally offer multiple shipping options for most of my listings hoping the buyer selects the cheapest alternative.
I don't use the regional boxes much but it would suck if the USPS did away with them especially the regional box A.

Great option and one I use on occasion just wish it worked for more items that I ship. It's ideal for for smaller packages where you pay for the size of the package instead of the weight but it has a .5 cubic foot limit and a max of 20 pounds but when you can use it the savings are sometimes substantial.

Many people can and many people cannot. The most important factor is how much YOU paid for the item. If you bought something weighing 2 lbs. for $10 and can sell it for $50 then the $17.10 ship cost is worth the effort. If you bought something weighing 2 lbs. for 40$ and can sell it for $50 then the $17.10 ship cost is not worth it.

My argument has nothing to do with buyers habits, and everything to do with the US Postal service and our clown government causing out of control inflation and destroying the U.S. economy.
How do you think products get to those B&M stores? They are shipped there! Rising shipping costs affect everyone, and they are destroying our economy.
The issue here is inflation.

Yeah, and all those antique and collectibles shops all sell online too. You just don't seem to get it.

O I get and so do those B&M stores. Diversity and covering both market places.

I will not argue with you over the fact that the government, among other things, is the cause of inflation but it is NOT USPS who is single handedly, to quote you earlier "Without a doubt USPS is bringing our entire economy to its knees". USPS just like every other business raises prices to cover costs and expenses, which by the way, they have never managed to do.
While US postage rates may seem crazy to most American's they are far from being excessive compared to other countries like Italy, France, UK, Germany, Canada................ They are excessive however compared to a lot of Asian countries where postage is VERY cheap. Since the USPS is funded by a combination of receipts and appropriation of government funds the consumer is going to pay the bill one way or another either directly or out of their tax dollars or their children, grandchildren or great grandchildren's share of the national debt which they shall inherit.

A lot of things get to the B&M store from owners sourcing from local markets and in the case of pawn shops and consignment stores customer walk in. While they may not bear the cost of shipping B&M stores battle other inflation factors like rising rent and/or building costs, increased gas and electric rates.......
The issue here is inflation.
I will not disagree that inflation is one of the factors slowing sales and making some items unprofitable to sell on eBay. But there are other factors contributing to the cost of ecommerce including sourcing costs, the addition of sales tax which was not a cost to the buyer prior to the Supreme Court decision in Wayfair vs. South Dakota, the changes to the 1099 issuing threshold (for those that had not been paying income tax on their eBay sales) and competition across the ecommerce market place and other ecommerce increased costs which includes labor. Increased labor costs is one, but not the only, prime causes of inflation.
