You're looking at this in the wrong way.
First of all, PayPal is history... the "good old days" of PP are gone.
Second, lac358232 just showed you the real breakdown of total fees, in which you didn't consider eBay's included fee back then with PP.
Third, and most importantly, eBay has hired the extra staff to collect, remit, and keep on top of all the constant state sales tax laws FOR US, so that we don't have to hire a full-time person to handle it ourselves. The majority of states have their hands out for sales tax and are going to get it from us one way or the other. I'm glad eBay is doing it for us, making it a freaking bargain.
Finally, stop using all caps when texting. It's the equivalent of yelling, which is not necessary... you'll still get good replies without screaming at us.
Cheers, Duffy

RE: SELLS TAX
Nothing personal, however, It's "sales tax" not "sells tax".

Your CapsLock seems to be stuck. Anyhow, credit card processing fees are on the entire sale -- merchandise, shipping, handling, surcharges, sales tax. They always have been, since the invention of the credit card as a form of payment, and they always will, whether or not you have ever noticed it before.

What diffeence would it make to you? Sales tax is based on the buyer's location, not the seller's. So no matter where you are located, if you sell anything to someone in a state that has a sales tax, that sales tax is due.

No evidence that it is wrong but just your opinion.
Most money processors do the same.

Your buyer pays the sales tax if their state charges one on internet sales and eBay keeps that sales tax to transfer to the the buyers state coffers.
The sales tax you see is the basis of for applying the eBay FVF you pay.

Well eBay and PayPal got a mutually agreeable divorce. And starting in August 2001 PayPal is charging higher fees for their money processing fees 1%age point more.
The eBay fees are a bit less than the combination of eBay & PayPal - 12..55% plus 30 cents vs 12.90% plus 30 cents (w/o their current increase).
Don't know how you came to a 15% eBay charge but mine have been 12.55%
5 plus cents on the entire amount the buyer paid. There are some item categories that have a different percentage rate.

The other legal option is have the seller collect all the various state sales taxes and submit to the applicable state. I and most other sellers would rather not want to do that as it is an every changing required activity. My guess says you would not want to do this. Our state requires busnesses to submit sales tax collection every fiscal quarter.
