SCAM!!!

Appears that scammers are now buying an item...paying for it......then once it is listed as "shipped"...they file an unauthorized use" claim and get their money back AND get the item!! I went through hell trying to stop and intercept the package with USPS and yes....there is a fee of $15.25 to do this. WTH????

SCAM!!!

eBay is over run with scammers now it’s probably more likely you will be scammed then not. eBay allows this to go on and it will only get worse.

@sykesville2

Call that item back. It's better than letting the scammer have it AND the refund.

As I understand, the line on their credit card statement says something generic like eBay/Adyen... buyers are used to seeing PayPal mentioned on that line, ESPECIALLY those that are paying the same way they have always done... with PayPal. Many who don't sell on eBay don't realize there has ben that change.
eBay has been very focused on getting sellers switched over, that they have neglected to let buyers know about these seemingly subtle changes.

Of course, there will always be users who game the system. They seem to be coming out of the woodwork these days.

I'm not sure if a 'heads up' email to the buyer reminding them of the item number and tracking would stir their conscience, but it might. Especially if it was an honest mistake.

When the chargeback is finalized, you will assessed a $20 fine for the refund. Be sure to contact eBay everyday until they credit that $20 back to you. Your best bet would be a private message through eBay for business on Facebook.

You will also want to add their user ID to your Blocked Bidder List.

@sykesville2

The old "old unauthorized use" claim was a PayPal term.   When you are enrolled in managed payments the typical Payment Dispute can be either "buyer doesn't recognize the charge"  OR "unauthorized transaction".   These are two separate claims.

For the first, the seller is allowed to only input a tracking  number in the dispute  which much show delivery.

eBay claims that they have seller protection for this sort of dispute:

When a buyer reports that they don't recognize the transaction:

You have provided proof of delivery, which includes all of the following:

Tracking number provided by the shipping company (uploaded by the date in the payment dispute notification)

A delivery status of "delivered"

Date of delivery

Recipient's address, matching the address on the order (including the city, county, zip code or international equivalent)

Proof of signature confirmation if an order has a total cost (including shipping and taxes) of $750 or more, uploaded as an image while contesting the payment dispute

What the protection policy states and what actually happens are not always in line.

The second, unauthorized charge or transaction, is not addressed in the eBay policies at all.  In this instance, the buyer is claiming that they had nothing to do with this transaction whatsoever.  An example might be if the credit card was stolen or used without the card holder's knowledge or permission.  eBay's seller protection pages do not address this sort of instance at all.  Though they do not appear often, there has been no report of a seller having prevailed in a payment dispute of this type.

Generally speaking the first "doesn't recognize the charge" have been the easiest to contest, and sellers did not lose these if the seller protection criteria were met.  Lately, however, that does not seem to be the case.  Regardless of what the policy says, sellers can no longer be assured they will not lose the funds with no avenue to get the item returned.  The basic premise for this has been the excuses such as "ebay has no control, it is the credit card company and nothing we can do" OR  "once the financial institution has made their decision, we comply with it".   (and of course hit you with the additional $20 bonus charge).

SCAM!!!

If you do lose the dispute you should contact ebay and insist on a courtesy refund to cover your loss.
