Hey Hot Shot Sellers! OK OK So I've been taking your advice and finally after 2 slow months had 2 sales while I took a nap. 🤣 And there's nothing like activity to motivate me to work on listings haha.
I'm working on the major tweaking of listings that have been, let's say idle for awhile and need some TLC. The one thing I'm not crystal clear on is, is there any advantage to ending then re-listing vs. simply revising the listing title, picture, etc?
I started with revising, cropping pics, tweaking titles, etc. then decided since I have plenty of listings to try re-listing some the dead beats after some tweaks. LMK what you think, thanks peeps!
Check this one out, just picked up on the tube...

Thank you, thank you, thank you--and now I was able to find it, not where people had said it was, but on the Overview page (which has so much stuff it's amazing one can find anything).
I will be using that in the future, I'm sure. Before this, to pause my listings, I had to lose the rest of the month. 😞

@estate_echoes Oh, another question. In one post, you say "relist", in another, you say "Sell similar". Which do you do? (I'm guessing sell similar, but am not sure.)

@my-cottage-books-and-antiques wrote:@estate_echoes Very interesting, and very helpful. A question: some sellers add new listings daily? Do you do that?
Unfortunately, ebay does not provide the sort of traffic data granularity they provided years ago, and so its hard to know what "external" consists of. But we know (unless this has changed) that ebay submits new listings (and presumably relists and/or sell similar) to Google Shopping every night. So, if most of those external views are Google Shopping, I'd expect to see at least some bump in external views every day if you are submitting new listings daily.
Just trying to figure this out....
On this account I started selling in November, 2024. I have 950 active listings, sold 453.... I list irregularly. Sometimes I do a stretch of listing 15-20+ items a day for a weeks then take some time off to focus elsewhere. Or i list off and on. External views are typically 5 or less a day. Regardless of if I list or dont list. The only way to change it is if I end and sell similar a batch of 200... i get about 25 external views a day for a few days.
It's such small numbers, but in essence it indicates that recency has an effect with google like it does with ebay. For every 20-30 new listings I may get an extra external view.
It's probably dependent on what you sell. I sell a lot of ephemera... and I don't think it's something benefits from Google, as opposed to more common sought after items. Back in the day I could find my items in google with ease. Often top result. Today, not so much. Seems to be a lot more platforms on Google than before. And again, since you can pay for increased traffic, that reduces views if you aren't paying. Same happened with auctions for me, ebay started promoted them and traffic died of if you arent promoting.

I started putting 'Free International Shipping' in my titles.
I always had free domestic shipping but my sales picked up a little with domestic buyers.
Cool items you have by the way.
The hand with the 'rings' buyer gets to choose...so many dumb buyers out there...one will think they are getting all the rings for the price...I would only show one ring...we recently had a post here with a seller showing 3 shirts in photos and buyer assumed all 3 for the price and did not give a pick on the shirt chosen and buyer had a 'shipping deadline to ship something. Just a thought.

I do sell similar.
Ebay recently made it so when you "relist" it now gets a new listing number. I never found out why there was a change, and never really trusted it to have the same results of sell similar.
The next batch I refresh next week I plan on trying 'relist' just to see.

@estate_echoes Thanks. I don't know if this is newish, or if I just never noticed before, but I just used bulk edit to relist some ended items, and discovered that I can choose relist or sell similar (I chose sell similar). I've done relists/sell similar in the past, but have usually done them one by one, because I've usually had only a few. The bulk editor does make it a lot faster/easier.
I'm focused on getting new listings up today, but will probably end /sell similar a batch of 200 next week sometime to see if it helps with sales. Thanks for the tip!
When you do your batch of 200, do you actually make any revisions, or do you just end and bulk edit as sell similar? I made revisions to the seven I did today.

I don't make any revisions. (But feel like I should.... better titles... more item specifics.)
If you have items that have been the same for several months or longer I would note the past 30 day views on them, before ending. After sell similar-ing, the next 30 days will likely be higher.
And watch the traffic in performance. It goes back 7 months. Replicate the results so you know it's not a coincidence. It helps you learn what works best for you. Might be other things that help too...
I think you were in Gurlcats thread where she ended her whole store (100 items) then did sell similar an got a bump.

You can make all those revisions without ending the listing. You might try that and see if you see a difference so that you aren't breaking the connection with Google on the original listing. Just a suggestion. A test you may like to give a try.

With 3k sales and 1.7k listings I am pretty sure Meme knows this. OP's post, the topic, is on ending and relisting. Meme would be doing so because, because like with most people who do, it gives a demonstrable increase in views, thus likely sales. Pretty sure Meme, like most people who do this, know they get more views from doing this, than they get from google. That's kind of the point in doing it in the first place.
For the months I did not end/relist I had fewer external views than the past month where I did. Ending and relisting gave a recency boost in external views each time it was done.
May I ask if you have seen anything other than a dodgy slide from ebay to support your suggestion? Are you getting a lot of external traffic?
Here was a month where I was not ending and relisting....

Curiousity question, answer: Starter store, I'm too cheap to throw money at eBay, and it's my first store. 🙂

What benefits do you find you are getting from the store subscription? We often advise that the Starter Store is often not a good investment, but it does enable some features and could certainly benefit some sellers, so I’m curious if you feel it’s benefited you.

Stores are NOT throwing away money. If you can actually use a Basic store or above, it is a very good value for the money. But you would know that if you actually compared the benefits of having a higher level store. Once you are regularly listing 300+ listings a month, the Basic store will SAVE you money.

So far, helping with overall organization, focus on making a more cohesive price list, allowed me to put inventory on sale. I'm trying a combination of changes to increase traffic and sales, so it's hard to say exactly what helps someone buy the item. I'm not sure if the store will help increase sales directly, but it does seem to help give more control over catagorizing, and sales/discount events. It also helps to have a store front to showcase the listings.

Your listings are part of the 2.6 million+ listings in the Jewelry category or.00078 of all the listings - just on eBay.. That's a lot of competition. You sold 29 items out of 200+ listing in the last 90 days . Your jewelry offerings seems to be unique and appeals to a certain segment of the shoppers. Don't think there is a "magic potion" that will entice new buyers. Try finding other items or jewelry that is appealing to a broader customer base..
Me thinks something like the 80/20 rule might apply in your situation . https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pareto_principle or the "bell curve" distribution might be applicable. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MqBR7RYFSas

Typically that is not what a store is for. If that is what you are expecting, then you will likely be disappointed.
There are other benefits however on stores Basic and above. More free listings, lower FVFs, etc.
