What is an acceptable rate of return.
I sell auto parts that are dependent upon proper fitting. I give all the info I have, including a measurement picture, yet I still get returns.
Usually for not fitting. Rarely for condition or bad description.
(they are used)
My return rate is a little over 3% (11/324) and there are zero settled without resolution.
So, what IS an acceptable return rate?
Is it product specific?

You need to check your Service Metrics to see what the numbers are for the categories you sell in. Each category would have different numbers.

What do your seller metrics state as the average for your peers?
You know that the car parts sellers all pretty much complain about so many returns.
I magine you will get quite a few chiming in.

Auto parts have an industry wide returns rate of about 20% according to published data. They are second only to Women's Clothing for retail returns.

Industry standards isn't what sellers on Ebay are held to or need to be concerned about. It is how Ebay calculates it in the peer to peer numbers of the Service Metrics.

I would guesstimate my rate of return is less than 1/2% or one in every 200 sales.
I would imagine selling auto parts that percentage would be a lot higher.
