I have really been struggling with returns recently.
I suspect it's a growing pain.
My traffic has gone up, and I've been working on getting the Sales Conversion Rate up, my volume has almost doubled in the last two months.
I have a very generous return policy. I don't believe in forcing someone to buy something they don't want. But, in encouraging returns for 'any reason' I may be shooting myself in the foot.
I got a warning (first one ever) for returns. Interestingly enough, they don't say what an acceptable return rate IS. Mine is just over 1%.
- Is there anything I can do, policy wise, to reduce the return rate? If I change to "no returns" would that help?
- What IS an acceptable return rate?
- Under what circumstances can I refund, and have it not count as a ding?
- Can I (should I) encourage buyers to contact ME first so we can work it out without ebays unfair interference?
Is it true that the ONLY thing that counts against us is when buyer:
and all the other reasons do NOT count against us?
So, if someone says it arrived broken ... doesn't count? Doesn't work? ... don't count?
Which 'excuses' for a return do NOT count against us?

@chariot_badges
Buyers don't know that an 83 blue oval isn't the same as an 82.
You are selling emblems that you don't know what fit. (which is fine...although less okay than it used to be)
But you are taking a few too many liberties with the item specifics in order to be seen. For "todays" eBay, that's not a good idea unless you like returns.
Car makers made a LOT of seeming same appearance emblems, yet subtle differences.
IMO:
Fill out only what you know FOR SURE in item specifics. Heck, I've resorted to stop taking eBay's suggestions and now I only fill in the make and part number boxes. I wouldn't even do that but I have a ton of stuff that I have no idea what it is, and am using the part numbers to figure out what the parts are. So, I've already written down the part number....might as well include it when listing.
Stay away from Compatibilities completely.
Do away with the blanket description (to me, this is probably your biggest issue).
Describe each emblem as listed. Short, to the point, telling about damage or broken tabs or finish.
I've sold those Ram350 emblems for $75 each in the past that way.
And that last Silverado emblem you sold? That's a $50ish emblem!
The descriptions I looked at, and eBay's return policy, I would assume excessive returns.
The blanket description is worded nice and reading it makes you seem like a really nice person to deal with. BUT, BUT, it's too much to read and it's not telling me anything about the emblem.
It takes too much time, but it'll separate you from the pack, Increase sales, And reduce returns dramatically.
