Is there a time limit if a buyer wants a refund for an item they claim is defective? Can they wait over 30 days from purchase to request money back?

30 days on ebay. 180 days on paypal or if they do a chargeback.

Also on paypal the buyer pays return shipping.

30 days from date of delivery on ebay.com - not 30 days from date of purchase.

What is a buyback?

Oops, I mean what is a chargeback?

A charge back is when they charge back to a credit card for the item that was not as described.

How long can they charge back? How does that work? Does it pull automatically from your PayPal account? What if what the buyer is now claiming a month and a half later is not true? Can I do anything or do I have to refund even with a no refunds unless defective policy. I buy a lot but not very knowledgable with any selling problems because usually everyone is happy!

It was a necklace. I called the store today that I purchased it from on November 14th, 2015. I have an account there so I hoped they still might have record info. They did! They confirmed it was genuine and original purchase price of $265. They emailed me a copy of the tag with a note saying yes it was genuine.
But the buyer claims not genuine and they are not being very nice. They are threatening me if I don't "make it right." I have not had good luck with calling eBay help in the past, so I hoped this community chat might have people who have handled similar claims and could give me good advice and speak from experience. I don't really feel I should have to refund under these circumstances. Item was as described and they waited all this time.

I think I would scan and email a pic of the tags that you got from the store to the buyer. Maybe they are just worried they bought something fake. Why do that think that anyways? Sometimes people come up with an idea just because so and so said so. Duh.
Otherwise I do not know, I take any returns, and would take a late return. However, I too would be worried about a chargeback and not getting my item back PLUS losing the money. I am not sure about the ins and outs when it comes to that (hoping not to find out). I only had one chargeback and that one was from a person claiming an INR. All I had to do was call paypal and then they closed it in my favor.
What does the buyer's feedback look like? Something to check out to see if they make this sort of thing a habit.

All you can do is put a copy of the tag (not a receipt?) and the note into the claim and see if ebay accepts that as proof of being genuine. Waiting all this time doesn't count because maybe they just found out it was a fake? Not saying it is, but they may have just found out something.
How are they "threatening you if you don't make it right"??

She says if I don't make it right Visa will. I don't know what that means but the entire tone of her email was not nice. If people can charge me back up to 6 months later I just don't want to sell. They could ruin something by then or exchange it for a fake. I have had one other false claim I just had to refund so I finally just ended all my auctions. I'm too afraid to sell stuff if people can make false claims and cause so much hassle. I work and this is more for enjoyment and it is causing too much stress. I have perfect feedback and it matters to me to keep it that way. I've had so many happy buyers it's awful that a few can just make life so miserable.

VISA is a credit card and she's referring to doing a chargeback. You can fight it if you have proof that it's not a fake. You would have to contact her bank/credit card company immediately if she does a chargeback.
