Returns lately

So in the last couple of months we have had a lot of returns opened up "" BUT """ they never end up returning the item and the return closes...

Just feels like they are opening them up ( returns )  in hopes to get refunded and keep the item ?!?!?!

Has any also seen an uptick it this ?????

Re: Returns lately

That's odd. I'm guessing those buyers decided not to go through with the return because there is work involved in returning a widget, packaging the widget, printing the return label, going to the PO.
Or they just  forgot about it.

Or like you said they were looking to get freebies by being refunded while also keeping the item.
I haven't had a return in quite a while. No, I haven't seen an up tick in returns.

Re: Returns lately

Keep your case documentation handy via screenshot or whatever, especially on the pricey stuff in case they file a chargeback later.

If contesting a chargeback, your return policy and all the dates they filed, screenshots of the return case etc. are solid ammo.

Re: Returns lately

I think I've had one in the last 2 years.

Sometimes they are able to fix the issue and decide to keep the item, it's frustrating to open a package and see something wrong so they rush to return, then they realize it's not so bad.

Re: Returns lately

I wouldn't assume what anyone is doing... I have been on eBay for almost 21 years and I started out when I was 18. In that time I maybe had about 6-7 items that absolutely had to be returned and another 30 or so that deserved to be returned as I'm not in the habit of collecting garbage from lying or "omitting-info" sellers, and paying money to do so.

More often than not I would keep items in hopes of being able to salvage them because I don't like opening a lot of returns and if that didn't work out it was my loss. A few times I have started the return process and didn't complete it for legitimate reasons, one time I wouldn't have been able to return the item in the timeframe given, and the other two times were back to back and I decided to just forget about it so I won't have back to back cases on my account; I care about my account and I ended up being out of money paying extra at the dry cleaners but that was my choice.

Re: Returns lately

YEAH I had one like that awhile ago. Customer opens return, does not return in time frame. Case closes and then they open chargeback. I screen shot info with a file uploaded to ebay showing this was clearly a buyer trying to steal merchandise because they had every opportunity to return this item. Watch out for those people.

Re: Returns lately

Also, when that return case is closed by ebay which by the way gives them a ton of time to return it, if for some reason they forgot about returning it, they may think the only way to get a refund is the chargeback. It’s actually darn dangerous because the CC will not do their due diligence properly. I believe though Ebay still gives them the opportunity to contact the seller and request another return thank goodness.

Re: Returns lately

I haven't had a rash of returns lately,

but when I do have a return, the item does not get returned about 50% of the time.

Re: Returns lately

We are experiencing a high number of returns also,

people order my games and then return them because they don't like them or that they are in Japanese.

It doesn't matter if I list it in the title, they will still make the purchase and complain.

We are basically at the point where we are questioning every sale and cancelling sales that seem borderline because we are being abused, I suppose it is part of doing business.

Re: Returns lately

In the last 90 days we have had

5 Ordered by Mistake

2 Changed Mind

1 Didn't Like

and 2 other returns that claimed damage that wasnt there

And all this against declining sales it is just not fun

Re: Returns lately

In the last three months I’ve had 3 cancellations and one return. I never received cancelled items and then 3 all of the sudden. Maybe coincidentally, they all change their minds?
