Hi,
I am extremely confused. I sold a phone which I know was working but the buyer says it doesn’t. I sent them a message to tell them to charge it and turn it on twice but so far no response. eBay still went ahead and sent me the funds so does it mean the buyer figured it out? Because I see the return still initiated.
thanks!

If the buyer opened a case, be sure to respond to it..if not, Ebay will refund him and let him keep the phone, and you wlil receive a defect on your account. Responding to the buyer is not enough. You need to respond with a return label, and refund after return, if you want it back.

yes, unfortunately, that happens a lot with new sellers who sell pricey electronics here, you are as scam magnet..Im sorry..good luck.If that happens, you can always appeal after the case is closed..but honestly, thats usually a waste of time.

Always post as many pics as possible and one of the serial # of the item so you can compare it when you get the item back. That way you have proof of the item you sold. Put yourself in a scammers shoes when selling anything. Always cover and protect yourself.

Phones are a high risk sale item: they be a target for scammers.
So far advice that has been given is correct:
If some one says item not as described: you get a couple of choices:
1: let them keep item and refund: or eBay will refundfor you.
2: return for refund: again or eBay will refund for you.
If item returned is not the item you sent this become between you and them: fraud and theft is what such would be and you would need to deal with such through law enforcement. eBay is not law enforcement.

If you dont get your phone back, maybe you can brick it so its at least unusable..Im afraid this was a scam just waiting to happen..its unfortunate that Ebay allows new sellers to sell pricey electronics..the predators are out there...just waiting for their next victim.

Of course your buyer is a zero feedback buyer who just joined, probably trolling for a new seller to scam,.(not that all zero buyers are scammers, they are not, but this one seems pretty deliberate with his intentions).

That might be proof of the item you sold, but doesn't prove that's the item you shipped.
If a buyer claims they received the wrong item, you can't prove you sent the right one.

As a new seller you should have never listed that phone. Ebay should have never even allowed you to list it given the very high probability that you, as a new seller listing an expensive phone, would be scammed. Hopefully you have not spent the funds and can redeposit the funds into an Ebay linked account. Otherwise it will go to collections which is not fun and can become costly in the long run.

Yeah, I was a little too trusting of eBay on this one... thought it was a platform I could trust. As you said, @bonjourami I will try to at least report it stolen so I can brick it.
