Return customer. Much appreciated but odd?

I sell this Japanese soda, it comes in 2 flavors: ume and yuzu.  $7.50 a can. S&H is $6 for the first can, $3 each additional can.

I am VERY thankful to have a repeat customer but i find his buying pattern a bit odd.

July 20: He bought 3

July 25: He bought 1

August 5: He bought 1

August 7: He bought 1

Why would he keep buying 1 at a time? Why not buy in larger quantities?

Are these Immediate Payment Required listings, by any chance?

Even if they are IPR listings, and assuming maybe the buyer doesn't know how to use the ebay cart, the OP says he only has two flavors.

The buyer can just put QTY 2 when he buys, unless he switches his flavor on every consecutive order.

I'm not sure what the significance would be about there being only two flavors, although I do see that both have more than one available at the moment.

Can you really ship pressurized liquids via First Class Package? Given that the OP is in Hawaii, wouldn't shipments to the Other 49 have to go by boat? Does the PO ever wonder why your FCP boxes are sloshing? Smiley Tongue

Re: Return customer. Much appreciated but odd?

They do and they have asked before about my "sloshing" packages.

My local postmaster told me that soda in canned or plastic containers are ok. Soda in a glass bottle is a no no.

Also, he asked me if i can pack them very well, which i do.

3.4 Liquids

[6-23-19] Mailers must mark the outer container of a mailpiece containing liquid to indicate the nature of the contents (i.e. liquid), and include orientation arrows in accordance with Publication 52, section 226. Mailers must package and mail liquids under the following conditions:

  1. Use screw-on caps with a minimum of one and one-half turns, soldering, clips, or similar means to close primary containers containing liquids. Do not use containers with friction-top closures (push-down tops) except as provided in 3.4c. The use of locking rings or similar devices are encouraged when mailing containers with friction-top closures (push-down tops).
  2. Liquids in steel pails and drums with positive closures, such as locking rings or recessed spouts under screw-cap closures, may be mailed without additional packaging.
  3. Breakable containers including, but not limited to, those made of glass, plastic, porcelain, and earthenware, and metal containers with pull-tabs (pop-tops) or friction-top closures, having a capacity of more than 4 fluid ounces must be triple-packaged according to the following requirements:
    1. Cushion the primary container(s) with absorbent material capable of absorbing all of the liquid in the container(s) in case of breakage;
    2. Place the primary container inside another sealed, leakproof container (secondary container), such as a watertight can or plastic bag; and
    3. Use a strong and securely sealed outer mailing container durable enough to protect the contents and withstand normal processing in Postal Service networks.
  4. As an alternative to 3.4c above, mailers may use containers certified under the International Safe Transit Association (ISTA) Test Procedure 3A. Mailers must, upon request, provide written test results verifying that sample mailpieces passed each test outlined in the standard and that no liquids were released.

I assumed you were hinting that the buyer possibly didn't know how to combine the purchases (thru the cart) with IPR listings and forced to buy one at a time. The lesser the variations (2), the more likely the buyer is to be able to just up the QTY count of the same variation and IPR that one. My theory would be out the window if the listing had like 20+ variations and the buyer chooses all different flavors in his multiple purchases.

He tells his brother and brother says "ooohh … get me one!"

Brother tells his wife … wife goes "where's mine?"

Wife tells her sister … "me too!"

$13.50 a can shipped? That must be some **bleep** good soda.

She may not be selling the soda.... she may be selling memories of home or childhood.... that is why it is one of the few things I used to suggest when a new seller would ask what to sell. Regional or items not available in other areas.... people will pay a lot for... especially at Christmas time.... because they are thinking of home. It isn't the product but what the product means to them. Say growing up, every Christmas eve you remember having some regional item.... if you are half way around the world or didn't get leave.... it may be a small price to pay to that person.

Or they just really love that soda or they are wealthy and $13.50 is meaningless to them...

there are places I've been I would have paid $13 for a Dr Pepper..... and I would have paid a LOT for a box of Sugar Cookies at Christmas... even stationed in Hawaii and not going home on leave, it didn't seem like Christmas... but if you can't be home, Hawaii isn't the worst place to be...

There was never yet an uninteresting life. Such a thing is an impossibility. Inside of the dullest exterior there is a drama, a comedy and a tragedy.

This fits the pattern of many buyers I encounter who, by their third purchase, frequently ask if I can offer a discount for their repeat purchases for family members.
