Return Request; Just when I thought I'd seen it all...

On April 12th we sold an XBox Kinect sensor. Once the buyer received it, April 18th, they wrote to say that it didn't include a power cord or a wifi connector, which they were assuming it would, and had to go out and buy these parts. We replied that the listing was just for the sensor, that the photos showed only the sensor and that the listing contained the condition that "What you see in the photos is what you get. If you don't see it in the photos, it is not included."

Ok, so, last Friday, May 10th, the buyer filed a return request. Except they don't want to return the item; they want us to re-imburse them for the parts they bought. In fact, what they're asking for is $5 more than we were actually paid for it.

So far I've responded by again indicating that the listing was for the sensor and nothing else and that the buyers decision to buy additional parts was their decision and responsibility, not ours. The buyer, however, insists that we are at fault and insists we pay for these parts.

I'm wondering, therefore, what sort of decision eBay might make on this as it seems likely that it will go to them for a final determination. We're prepared to take the item back and issue a refund of the purchase price + shipping but no way will we pay for these parts.

I sold an item...buyer said it was damaged...I allowed a return...sent return label...then the buyer upped it to Ebay anyway...in the end he got to keep the item...plus Ebay refunded him and found me not at fault..

Been down this road before. You will lose the case. Block this deadbeat, then accept his return.

There is a contingent of buyers out there who specifically try to pull this scam on no returns listings. Honestly, I can't recommend listing anything with no returns these days because it just seems to be an SNAD magnet. I've had attempted scams on every single no returns listings I've posted in the last 2 years.

I've added boilerplate to my listings on non-new items that specifically states that "no other parts or accessories are included," directly after I state what is included.

If you are going to list no returns then I suggest saying as little as possible other than this is the item, nothing else is included in the listing, only the item in the photo, that its working state is completely unknown and the item is being sold completely AS-IS with no warranty of any kind.

OK, I've accepted the return. It's now up to the bug-wit to send it back. Except they don't want to send it back; they want us to pay for those parts...

smart move,i bet the odds are they won't send it back, don't refund until they send it back (they won't)but if you do they might send their friends) if they leave a neg i would recommend a follow up remark below it that says "exactly as described"

not in caps leave it at that and move on,buyers will see that and their smart they really are.

Last one that i did like that my next 2 buyers left feedback that said "exactly as described" looked good above that neg.

Did you use the wrong UPC on the listing, or did you just send what you had in the box?

According to my research, (if you used the correct UPC) the item should come with a power cord and wi-fi connector.

If some of the contents are missing, the UPC should not be stated on the listing.

When ever I sell something that is broken, has missing parts, needs repair, doesn't work, etc, I want this info to stand out so I turn on the caps and change the text to look like this:

NOTE: BROKEN, HAS MISSING PARTS, NEEDS REPAIR, DOESN'T WORK, ETC.

I want to make absolutely certain the buyer sees and understands all the details of what I am selling.
