Return Fraud - Multiple Orders with The Same Empty Envelopes

In the last month, I have had two separate orders with values over $50 be returned for "item not as described".

The first order was for 6 boxes of mouth spray. The buyer sent back a tiny poly envelope with a thank you card in it that I don't send with my orders. I uploaded the evidence and won the case. They have now filed a payment dispute.

The second one was an order for 6 Mini Brands balls. When I got the return I immediately noticed it was the same envelope, so I recorded myself opening the return. It had the same thank you card in it.

When I went back and checked, both of these buyers did not have any feedback. They were both from different locations also. I also just saw I have another return coming from a buyer with no feedback for the same order of Mini Brand balls. I have a feeling it's going to be the same small poly envelope with that buyer.

Obviously I uploaded all my evidence for both cases, but I think Ebay needs to be aware of this scam that is happening. I have tried to contact Ebay but only get the automated responses through the chat assistant, no live person.

Has anyone else received a return like this? Both of the envelopes and cards were identical. The envelopes were small polys and the thank you cards had balloons on the front.  Any advice?

People are often told in the Community that they will almost always loose a return scam.  Congratulations on winning a fake return scam.

Is it possible you could tell what evidence you uploaded and how you explained the fake return to win the case?

I think what helped me win the case was taking pictures of the tiny envelope the person sent. You could see their name and the return ID in the photo on the label. I made sure to put another item next to it for size so they could see it was impossible for the items to have fit in the envelope.

I am also going to start recording opening all returns

Re: Return Fraud - Multiple Orders with The Same Empty Envelopes

We have received tons of these lately! Gray empty bags filled with balloons, small rocks, thank you cards, and even combs. They all seem to be connected and the user quickly deletes their ebay account after the return. What we have been doing is monitoring the returns so that we can escalate them immediately once they arrive and submit pictures of what we received. After the ebay return case is won, the scammers will then file chargebacks. As long as you attach pictures of what you received and a screenshot of the case you won against them eBay will cover you. Most of these accounts have 0 feedback and were just made, sometimes we can spot them and just cancel the orders. Hope this helps
