Did you mean:

Retracted bid. I'm fuming.

So ebay let me know a bid was retracted. This happened within 12 or less hours before the end of the auction. So my highest bid went from 83 to 30 something. EBay won't let me end the auction because it has less than 12 hrs left. I see a double standard here when someone can retract a bid within 12 or less hrs left but a seller can't end it within the same time frame?! Ebay you can shove it

Re: Retracted bid. I'm fuming.

The bid was retracted 4 minutes earlier than 12 hours left.

Bid retraction at 5:31:39pm (Ebay time)

Listing ends at 5:35 am (ebay time)

So buyer retracted bid at a point with over 12 hours left.

I'm not real good with the clock, but seems it was "over 12 hours" left when done.

Re: Retracted bid. I'm fuming.

Most bids arrive in the last few minutes or even seconds of an auction.

If you want to get more than $30 you have to start the auction at more than $30.

Better would be to decide on what the item is worth to you and list at Fixed Price like 85% of listings.

Higher actually because most auctions include a Buy It Now option which, if used, ends the auction.

You can massage a Fixed Price listing by adding Immediate Payment Required  or Best Offer.

Re: Retracted bid. I'm fuming.

Think of it this way. They may have backed out, or caused you issues after the sale.

It is not over.

Most action happens closer to the end of the sale.

Try to be patient.

In the future you can use a reserve or higher starting price to keep your blood pressure in check. 😃

Best of luck!

Re: Retracted bid. I'm fuming.

Just because someone bid up to that amount doesn’t mean you get that amount. It would still go up to the next increment. That was just their highest they would pay.

Re: Retracted bid. I'm fuming.

I would put the retracting member's ID on my blocked bidders' list. That 12th-hour retraction sure seems like he's playing games.

Re: Retracted bid. I'm fuming.

What am I missing here? How does 1 (one) "bid" drop $50.00 with one bidder retraction?

If the highest was 83 (and say, as an example) it was me (highest bidder) I changed my mind retract the bid and it reverts to the next highest bidder that I beat (probably was around $75.00 or so)

Or am I confused.....

Re: Retracted bid. I'm fuming.

The high bid showing is  shown as one bid increment above the second-highest bid (with rare exceptions: (1) met the reserve; or (2) was less than a full bid increment above the second-highest bid).

In this price range, the bid increment is $1.

In this case, we can now see that the retracted bid's full amount was $190 but since it was showing as $83, we can infer that the current high bidder's full proxy bid is $82.  It's showing as $36 because that's one full bid increment above the next-highest bidder.

Re: Retracted bid. I'm fuming.

thanks......i failed to see the obvious you pointed out.....as it sits right now, the 2nd place bidder is just under the current high bid, but the current high bid has a proxy bid up to around that 80 dollar mark.....gotcha....

@arkansas_trading_co

You started the auction at $10, so you got what you wanted.

If you wanted more, you should have started the auction at the price you wanted.

Have a great day.

Re: Retracted bid. I'm fuming.

I would advise blocking the retractor.  It appears that he has uncovered the underbidder's max and is playing games.  There is a chance that he may try to slip in a snipe bid using another ID.  It is a pity that eBay has made it so difficult to report invalid bid retractions.  Frankly, this is one of the reasons I believe no retractions should be allowed.

Re: Retracted bid. I'm fuming.

Well...looks like your item is backup to $84.00 with more than 7 hours left for the bidding process.

Like @reallynicestamps said, most bids come in the last minutes/seconds of an auction so I expect that your item will sell for more than the $84.00 that it is at currently.

Congrats!

Re: Retracted bid. I'm fuming.

This is one of the reasons we rarely do auctions any more.  Too many games that Buyers play, etc.

As others pointed out - hit your BBL with the ID that retracted.  You can also report that ID if you notice they have a "habit" of retracting on their ID...
