Had a offer on an item (24 hours duration), Then after 8 hours the buyer retracted the offer before I even could respond. I thought the buyer had to wait the full amount of time on the offer before retracting??

Well, you are one up on me, I did not know a buyer could retract an offer at all. I really need to read up on some stuff LOL

The buyer doesn't have to wait. He can change his mind and retract at any time. You were to slow to respond.

Sure enough, there's a section called 'Canceling a best offer', that reads, "You can retract a Best Offer or counteroffer if:..."

However, if you've made a (mistake) when making an offer or a counteroffer,
you can retract or cancel it in certain circumstances.

You should be very happy they retracted it, much better than a forced return.

Never worry about a cancelled offer or bid.
And always agree to cancel a purchase if the buyer gets in touch before you have shipped.
Insisting on completing the transaction is a Bad Idea.
At best, you have an unhappy customer who may leave feedback.
At worst, you get into an arguement, lose the arguement, get a Defect, have your fees raised, the number and value of your listings restricted , or even have your selling account closed.
Not to be alarmist in any way, of course.

It wasn't a matter of being to slow. I was in bed when he sent the offer, and got up when he retracted it. I seem to a lot of get sales and offers from the west coast with me being in NY State.
