Hi
We are getting more buyers abuse return request and sent back different items.
We see there is option to report buyer with "Buyer returned the wrong item". Look like, we will have to ask eBay to step in.
Is anyone already tried that option and being favored? We haven't tried it yet since we afraid eBay will never side with sellers.
Thanks for let us know.
Regards

Never ever ask eBay to step in. You will lose the case, money will be forced refunded, you will not get your item back and you will receive a defect on your account.
Report the buyer. If the item was expensive you can file police reports, postal reports and ic3 reports and appeal the decision but it will take time

Ebay proceed a refund for $730 dollars to a buyer that sent the item back to the wrong address on purpose. USPS sent the item back to the buyer and now she gets to keep my item for free.
I filled a case with the BBB and im about to open a small claims case against both ebay and the buyer that scammed me.
Buyer agreed ti mail this to be at her own cost aince I already spent 70 dollar in shipping, she confirmed she would send my item back to the address I provided and then went to dispute/escalate the case on ebay (even though I agreed to refund) they provided her a return shipping label and this had my old address. They didn’t even notify me.

@nt_electronics Your best option is going to be refunding the buyer 50%. Which stinks but it's better than a full refund.
The only slight protection a seller has is if they offer FREE RETURN shipping on their listings OR if they are a Top Rated seller and offer 30 days or greater returns. The seller can then reduce the refund amount by up to 50% if the buyer sends a different item or somehow reduces the value of the item.

As a seller, you don't want to get Ebay involved until after the buyer is refunded and the case is closed.
If you ask Ebay to help with the return, they'll give you a defect for not handling the return, plus you won't get your fee's refunded.
If the buyer sends back a different item, you can file a police report and a mail theft report and use those reports to appeal the case.

Hi,
Thanks for sharing, i would suggest mailing item which value $200 above by UPS or Fedex. Buyers wont able to intercept the package or sending to different address. Either go forward or return back to shipper.
If buyer ask you to ship different address, never accept it if item value $100 or above.

You may be getting confusing and even misleading information.
You are a top rated seller and as such, you are entitled to ebay protections, however limited.
This process is different than an ordinary return.
When you go to process the refund, you have the chance to report things like "buyer returned the wrong item" and then it gives you an option to "report the buyer' and that is where you explain what the buyer returned or how they returned etc.
Then you can proceed to refund up to 50% of the items price and the original shipping.
ebay will refund you the return shipping, but it takes many weeks. You also have any feedback received for the transaction removed.
The claim will stay open for several days until the buyer "protests" the claim or it times out. If the buyer protests the claim ebay will most likely refund the buyer with no cost to you and the claim will close.
Again, if the buyer tries to leave negative, it will be removed automatically.
This is not the same as denying a claim when a buyer opens a return and it's not the same as calling ebay to protest a claim. This is all automated and online in the return process and it is for Top rated sellers.
The 50% is not great if you lost your item anyway, but it is better than nothing AND it puts the buyer on ebay's radar, for what that is worth.

Sending back wrong item is theft and postal fraud. Report it to law enforcement.

I just had a buyer send me back a completely different item. I made the mistake of asking Ebay to step in. Within a couple hours Ebay stole my money and refunded the buyer. Ebay's reply sounded like an automatic response with nothing to do with my case or it's someone who doesn't speak English and then just made up a reason to rule in the buyers favor. Buyer steals your item, Ebay steals your money. Then I click the option to appeal the decision. The link goes to a dead end Ebay article with no option to appeal. What joke, just like Ebay's fake "Seller Protection". The worst part is the same buyer bought 3 more of the same item before all this went down and before I blocked them. Who know's what this thief will do now. I've been selling online for 15 years. I stopped selling on Amazon after they instituted too much forced garbage to screw sellers and I'll probably ditch Ebay too. No one should ever sell items of high value on Ebay unless they want to risk losing it.

Um @turbostuff350 YOU asked eBay to step in and make the final decision. Why then would you think you can appeal that decision?

@turbostuff350 Hi, sorry to hear about this.
Just wanted to suggest that you start a new topic, rather than posting at the tail end of an old thread like this one. Responses from fellow users may overlook your contribution, and post replies to the original poster. Your thoughts may spark new discourse on the subject, and deserve to be heard.
