I'm not sure what the point of this post is, but anyway, this is not a "boondoggle."  A boondoggle is work or activity that is wasteful or pointless but gives the appearance of having value.  You might say this post is a boondoggle.

When a package I've sent gets stuck, I enter the tracking # on the usps dot com website. Then sign up for email or text alerts on the package. That always seems to get the package moving. Maybe I've just always had good luck with this, or maybe notices of alerts requested get sent to the PO or distribution center and someone actually does something.

Signing up for email or text alerts doesn't do anything to get things moving.  If your package is stuck, then file a package research case with USPS which will, in fact, get somebody at USPS to do something.

Items move very fast a distribution center. Automation, odds are you are lucky as you call it. I doubt they take someone away to find your item and getting it somewhere because you signed up for alerts. There are not enough bodies to do that for everyone who has signed up.

Less of a boondoggle if the info had just been added to the previous thread on same.

Well, my point is that my package has meandered all over Oregon and now has been stuck in Portland for days.  I have opened a ticket with USPS... pretty sure that is pointless too.  As well as hoping my purchase will someday get to me.

I've had about 50% good luck with that.  Opened a ticket yesterday.

ALERT MID USER NEEDS TO BE REGISTERED

This alert is generated when the PIC MID does not exist in PTR’s customer reference data.

PIC is an abbreviation for Package Identification Code - it refers to the barcode.

MID is an abbreviation for Mail Identifier - it's a field within the Intelligent Mail barcode that is used to identify mailers. MIDs are assigned by the USPS® to a Mail Owner, Mailing Agent or other service providers who request them.

PTR is an abbreviation for Product Tracking and Reporting - it's the database that stores tracking scan data for all barcoded packages and extra services products.

There have been several tracking scans and movement since the MID alert, so it doesn't appear to be anything you need to worry about.

I wouldn't be worried at all if they would just DELIVER my package.  It is still in Portland, which is about 2 hours from me.  I could have driven there and picked the dang thing up myself.  I have no idea what the holdup is.  I have never had anything this weird happen before, not even when one purchase went to Puerto Rico and back before getting to me.  That was kind of funny and this is not.

I know it's not the fault of any seller, but after a few more buys for my garden I am leaving buying for a bit, and I'm a great buyer.

I think this song is a clue as to  what is  happening to you  -

The package is still sitting in Portland and I messaged the seller with no answer back yet.  I will wait one more day and then file the INR.  Or maybe escalate with USPS.  They haven't been helpful either.
