Reposting this here in the selling group...
I had some listings that were 6 months old that "auto-renew" every 30 days. I tried an experiment and ended one and relisted it and 2 days later the item sold. Is this a good strategy or just coincidence? I would think when it "auto-renews" it goes to the top again?
Thanks...

I do it all the time except I don't use relist I use sell similar, get new item number, adjust it slightly then it sells. Your item gets a short 24 hourt boost when you do this. I would not leave items up 6 months without adjusting them.

I let mine auto renew if they are semi-regular sellers. I sell items that I have multiples of, or will have another of in a reasonable amount of time.
I use the Out Of Stock option, and let them continue to run. One thing there is that watchers remain, and also it continues to carry the sold quantity when a potential buyer is looking.
Others that seem to have stagnated, I will do as you did, ending, and relisting, or as other poster does, I will use the sell similar.

It doesn't "go to the top" if the buyer sorts their searches by "Newly listed." That sort uses the listing's original listing date, so the longer it rolls over, the lower it goes in that particular sort.
If you end the listing and relist (or use sell similar) then it's treated as a new listing with a fresh listing date, so it will go to the top of the sort by "Newly listed."
BTW, Good Until Canceled listings do not roll over every 30 days. They roll over on the same date as they were originally listed. If you list one today, it will roll over on February 17, March 17, April 17, etc. And when they roll over they use up one of your free insertions for the month.

GTC auto-renews do not appear as "newly listed".
Thanks for clarifying that. Ebay said otherwise when it's policy changed all fixed price listings to GTC.

It's easy enough to verify in any search that has a significant number of results. Just sort by "newly listed" and scroll down beyond 30 days. You'll see listing dates going back many months. Sometimes the months cycle multiple times, revealing that items have been listed for more than a year.
