Refunding

I had to refund a buyer for the first time in 20 yrs. I did not realize that ebay  also charge me for the fee associated with the sale. I don't understand that.  I refunded the buyer $100.00 & then Ebay charged me $ $9.07 for the fee they took from the sale originally. Looks to me like since I refunded the $100.00 they wouldn't charge me the fee. Seems kind of whacky to me.

Actually there's a reason Ebay is called "feebay".  No other ecommerce sites charges the fees that EB does.  I think EB should think about reducing it's labor and work force and pass the savings onto we resellers.  I'm noticing my sales slowing across the board because of fees that buyers have to buy.  Shipping costs are killing me.   the first class postage is $6.18!!!!

How did you do the refund??

You are eligible for fee credits in any of the following situations:

You are NOT eligible for fee credits in any of the following situations:

  • You refund the buyer outside of eBay (using PayPal to send money, for instance)
  • You issued a partial refund to the buyer
  • You or the buyer asked us to step in, and the case was closed with a refund to the buyer

@dei3racer0308

I am not certain, but I think this is how it works:

When you get paid from a sale, eBay has already taken their portion of the money.  For instance, if your sale was $100, what you get is going to be less.

So if you refund the $100, you may not have enough in your payment account since eBay gets paid first, and you only have the money that is left over.   So to give the buyer the $100 back, the balance comes from your other proceeds or bank account.

If you are due a refund from eBay for the fees, they give that back to you after the fact.

Check to see if that is what is going on.

I did the refund thru my bank account which there was enough money to cover the refund. On the page where it says refund the buyer is how I initiated the refund.

Are you sure you're not seeing a fee credit?

LMAO...If you ever find a company with that business model let me know. Also, postage should be fully recovered from your buyer.

Was it a full refund?

I just completed a refund and on my payment screen it shows an amount in red that I refunded, the fees are in black, because they were credited back to me.
