Refunding a buyer

A buyer bought a bunch of items from us, but did not use his cart and bought them individually. In turn, he didn't receive the advertised discount. Is there a way to refund a portion of the payment without it going against my rating? Thanks

Sure.  Why would it count against you?  Just click on Refund Buyer & choose shipping refund or Other & enter 'combined purchase discount' or whatever.   I do it all the time b/c so many of my buyers don't use the cart.

Select "shipping discount" as your reason for refunding.

I haven't had to refund excess shipping often, and I don't know whether I could do it via MP or what the effect would be on my eBay ratings or how it would foul up my MP transaction report.

So,  I just put the cash amount I'm refunding in a plastic baggie and put it in the package with the item(s).

Cash in a baggie means you are at the mercy of the buyer stating they received it. If the cash even gets to the buyer.

I've never had any problem with this method, so maybe I've been lucky.  I can't believe that very many USPS employees tear open random packages looking for cash.

As I said, I don't have to refund this way often, and a couple of times I've gotten commended for "honesty" in feedback from the buyer.

I've used the cash in baggie method on occasion too without any problem, but i'd rather have the fees adjusted, etc & do it through Ebay.

"I've never had any problems with that" is EXACTLY what everybody says...until they do.

This forum is littered with hundreds of 'scamming buyers, scamming sellers' and with the economy the way it is, even honest people are not always being honest.

Doing it the right way, 0% chance of an issue. Cash in a baggy does not have that same chance.
