Refund done via buyer messaged me no refund request opened.

Since buyer messaged me not happy with item; I refunded via paypal.  Since no refund request opened with ebay, will I be refunded ebay fees?  Will paypal notify ebay of the refund?  Otherwise how do I go about getting my fees reversed?  Thank you!!!

So you refunded but allowed the buyer to keep the item?

You can call ebay to give them the transaction details or you can have ebay call you from the Help & Contact button on the bottom of ebay pages.

You can also do the following:

Click on RESOLUTION CENTER at bottom of screen.

I sold an item
I need to cancel a transaction

Press [CONTINUE] and fill in the information asked for.

This just happened to me.  I refunded buyer after I received item and Ebay shows this as "Unpaid Item" and asks if I want to open Unpaid Buyer claim....Of course I don't....  So  I called Ebay and was told they will issue me a refund.  I asked why not automatic... she hemmed and hawed and then said it was automatic and it would show up on next bill.   Hmm, I'm not sure about that... I think I'm getting refund in this case because I called and requested it.

ebay has 2 status: paid and unpaid.

If a transaction is cancelled or refunded, it is unpaid.

If you don't want to see that, you can do this:

My ebay > SOLD > More actions > Hide order

This has been brought up in the WEDNESDAY CHATS with ebay staff, so they are aware of it.

If you used the ISSUE A REFUND via Paypal, you also need to file a Cancellation in ebay's Resolution Center to get your FVF credited.

@retiredmomma if course the refund isn’t automatic. It never has been. If you want a final value fee credit then the buyer has to either open a return request or you have to cancel the transaction. Neither of those happened in your situation so yes you got a refund because you called.
