Received security code - Is this a scam or does ebay now require

Text came from ebay:, also warned not to share code. Gave numbers and called it a security code. Have never heard of this, is it a scam or is it real ? Maybe a coincidence  as my sales have also grinded to a halt since receiving this note.  Confused......

Two factor authentication enabled?  I have it enabled and get such text messages to be able to log in. 

you have to put in the numbers to log in (after user name and password),  why you are getting the messages if you don't have two factor authentication enabled I don't know.

If you have 2-Factor Authentication set up, you'll get those when you log in.  If you weren't trying to log in, though, there's a chance someone knows your password and was only blocked from logging in by that code.  I would suggest changing your password if you know you weren't trying to log in at that time.
