Received an eBay message asking "authorized to sell proof" for a non-Vero brand

This dude claims to be working for the company. Their brand is not even on the Vero list. Do I need to do anything?

Do you guys have past experience where eBay will remove a non-Vero brand listing and hit you with a ban or something?

@chenx711

First thing, the "Vero list" isn't really a thing, it's only a listing of IP owners that have an arrangement with

eBay to file infringement notices in bulk AND they choose to appear on the list.

When a company comes after you directly instead of simply filing a Notice Of Copyright Infringement with eBay 9 times out of 10 it means that they are trying to scare you because you are not actually infringing and they are just trying to control the resale market.

Of course without a lot more detail about who contacted you, what the product was and what the notice said it's impossible to advise on the best course of action.

Just looking at your listings, you are using a lot of stock images, this could be the problem.

Just a guess without details......

Original message: "I work for XXXX. Who approved your account to sell Ryderwear products? This conversation will be sent to Ebay for review. A reply is needed"

When I ask who he/she is, a email address wholesale@xxx.com was provided. The product is in the clothing category. It's a foreign brand.

How are you receiving these messages? directly to your email or phone? via My Messages? Directly from eBay?

If what you posted is the entire message then it didn't come from eBay. The msg indicates they are interested in your source, many of these brands have strict controls on their authorized dealers, they hate leaks of product into the secondary market.

I searched your items and didn't find any Ryderwear, did you have some listed?

In any event I never would have responded at all and certainly ceased all communication at this point.

Ryderwear is resold all over the net - Poshmark has pages of listings, Thred-up carries it, etc. etc.  They also have an affiliate program to sell on commission.  I've never heard of Ryderwear being gated, though.

Your Ryderwear listings show copyrighted images. You'd better remove those (and preferably other stock images) before those companies do official VeRO removals!
