Received Message To Verify Account.

I just received the following message from Ebay:

Let's get you back on track. We need to verify your eBay account's phone and email.

Keeping this information updated helps eBay create a safe marketplace. Please verify your phone and email by Jan 23, 2023 to continue receiving payouts.

I clicked on the button to do this and all it did was ask me to sign in with my prefilled password and then it says it was finished.  There was no area that showed my phone number or e-mail.  Does this mean I completed everything? Should I call Ebay to make sure I did everything correctly?

Why? My home phone is much more secure than a cell phone.  You can use anyone's cell phone to get this code.  I still can put in my home phone number when asked for verification.  Why does it not say you need a cell phone number?  I think a lot of people are confused by this including me.  Please forward a copy of the rules regarding this so if I purchase a cell phone I can use it the entire cost for a tax write-off.  I would not use it for anything except eBay!

devon@ebay For anyone that is setting up a selling account for the first time they would not be able to list items until we can verify the account via cell phone and/or email.

Now, how about making it impossible for a seller to list before they have a working Managed Payments account?

and/or email.

Which seems to be the problem.

Emails are not being accepted.

Hey @femmefan1946! I can make sure to get this passed along to the correct teams and have them look into the email verification process.

You've always had to have different emails for each User ID but it would be beyond asinine to expect a seller with multiple accounts to have a different cell phone for each ID.

Thanks for that bit info which I will use getting verified

As a side note, just because something may be beyond asinine doesn't mean ebay won't do it

I don't see why ebay can't email a code. Most places now, including banks etc, ask if you want the code texted OR emailed.

Why is it that ebay always only has ONE way to do anything? Always their way or the highway it seems.

and that appears to be exactly what devon posted as the policy......    OR   ...................  but as is typical eBay does not even understand what they have written as policy. They can not even follow what they have written in plain English.

Many have cell phones, and the process will likely be smooth, but for others, a nightmare that is easily avoided.

My retirement plan just made everyone create a "new login account".  A code to be verified could not be done to a regular phone, or to an email addy, but what was done was to mail that code to me via USPS. Also a song n dance routine, but with my retirement funds I appreciate the added security.

And now today I get another message.

We recently asked you to review and update some details on your eBay account. Looks like you haven't made any updates yet.

Well gee, yes I have. Several times 😁  The email "verified" OK.

Today I contacted eBay CS via the link provided by devon. (again thanks to devon for the efforts)

I got a call back from CS using the phone # that I am attempting to update. The phone that has been on file with eBay, as the CSR confirms, for the 21 years that I have been selling. CS can see that I replied to the update request over a week ago.

CSR confirmed my phone #, (yup the one they called me on) and will again attempt a verification from that end. The update may take up to 72 hours to take hold. I was assured that I will get a "payout" on my scheduled day. (not the issue. issue is that on Jan 30, or Jan31 (depending upon which notification I read) payment will cease.

Additionally I was told that there was "a bug" in the system on the eBay end of this verification (really?) and that I may be prompted to upload my driver's license if the phone update does not take.)

Never once was it suggested that I needed an unverified "cell phone" to receive any info so that I could verify "my, currently registered with eBay", phone #.

"Please forward a copy of the rules regarding this so if I purchase a cell phone I can use it the entire cost for a tax write-off.  I would not use it for anything except eBay!"

And not just using a cell-phone "for anything except eBay", but only for using a cell-phone ONCE for verification by eBay.

This is lunacy to the nth degree -- no other business in America is forcing its users to purchase a cell-phone, simply to verify their identities on a one-time basis with the business, especially when there are numerous alternatives available for those who do not own (and do not wish to own) cell-phones.

And why are we only finding out about this NOW, only a few weeks before the busiest sales season the year?!?

Just to make sure.  Will everyone have to have a cell phone verification?  So far I have not received any message from Ebay saying I need to verify through a cell phone. I just did the verification that I mentioned at the beginning of this thread.

I have never heard back from anyone on this issue.  I still have the red banner to verify my phone number.  I put in my home number (not a cell phone) and it accepts it.  Next day I still have the same red banner on my account.  I put in the number in again and it says I am all set.  I just wish they would solve this issue.

It's an either /or situation on paper, but eBay has somehow managed to forget the "or".

Who in the hell do I contact about this? I'm EXTREMELY frustrated that they have held my funds for a week now, and I sold an item on Wednesday so I could specifically get the money by the weekend, so I can pay for a few bills. Every single time I update my bank details, I keep getting an e-mail saying that I haven't, and it is VERY infuriating. Unbelievable.

Thanks eBay for ruining the holidays for me. Really appreciate it.

To follow up.  My call back, to my existing registered with eBay phone #",  did as expected, with the "tell me anything to get me off the phone, may take up to 72 hours CRS guidance", has resulted in nothing happening.

Next step was to  message "eBay for business on Facebook". Temp suspended on 1st attempt to send a message . I had to buy a cell phone to appeal the suspension to be verified for a "Facebook" account.

Facebook would not allow me to do anything until they texted a code that I could put in. Once I put the code in I was immediately suspended again, and allowed to appeal by submitting a random photo of myself so they could verify that I was not hacking my own just created account.

Random photo of myself submitted. (could have been a photo of the garbage man. OK as long as no one else was using that photo)  After a couple of days, I had now been verified, and have my very own Facebook account.

Messaged "eBay for business" on Facebook. Explained the situation, and it was suggested that I contact the "payment team". I was provided a link, and was directed to contact them via the "option" at the bottom of the page. That link went to "Registering as a seller".

The "contact them via the option" connected me to a chat with another "off shore" eBay CSR.  The 1st CSR  reviewed the "chat with the previous agent". I took that to be from the previous call back I had initiated to my existing registered with eBay phone #.   CSR  asked    "are you trying to update your phone #".  I replied  "have tried to verify it several times, but the request to update keeps reappearing"  CSR replied with "So do you want to change the phone number now?" For some reason my, "no, just want to verify the existing #" reply was not going through, and the CSR ended the chat.

Got another chat started.  CSR "reviewed previous". After the scripted attempts to shuffle me off to Buffalo did not work  we continued on. Provided the CSR with some requested screenshots, was assured that it was a "rare occurrence" and also sent a screenshot via a provided link  to a "technical team" that would get right on it with "priority". The screenshot was of the info that  I was providing for update. The phone #, and the already "verified" email. "not to worry this will be resolved soon",  " it will be updated on your account". I offered to also send a photo copy of my phone bill with name, address, and phone # displayed, but was assured that it was "not needed"

As expected, after 7 days, the issue still has not been resolved. Every Friday, like clockwork, I get the email, and message; ACTION NEEDED please update the information we requested. I keep doing that, get the "Thanks, we're verifying your updated information" ,   but as expected the "banner" never goes away, and the  "update your account details by Jan 30, 2023 on file in order to avoid any issues with payouts in the future" banner remains with no resolution.

One hour, and 45 minutes of life that I will never get back, , as well as many many $$$ wasted for a cell phone, and service I will never need, only to be referred "of shore" by eBay for business.

Another eBay "blue" has provide a link to get in contact with someone about this issue, but that link goes to "Account restrictions and suspensions".  Although it seems that is what the result could be, I read nothing there that appears to be applicable to my situation at this time. Chatting with another off shore CSR that can not resolve this is pointless.
