REALITY CHECK

Ok. Just have to add my two cents. All the complaining about 30 day GTC I don't understand.  Sellers worried about paying for a listing twice in a 31 day month, and I must ad only under very specific circumstances, yet under those same specific circumstances in a month like February you would not  be charged at all.  IT IS a 30 day cycle not a monthly cycle.  Besides that Ebay billing cycle is on the 15th of each month.  It does not matter if you are charged for a listing on the 1st, 30th or 31st  of the month.  Only one charge will show  on a billing cycle.  Yes I can understand how this can affect an accounting software. I don't use one but there must be a work around as a multitude of other businesses would be affected. There are many things on a 30 day cycle and not monthly. I would guess most businesses have the understanding that over the period of one year this all works out to an even bottom line.

A simple analogy is prescriptions. You buy on the 1st of the month and get 30 day supply. You have to go back to the pharmacy on the 31st to buy again. Do you complain?  What about a month like February?  At the end of the month do you even notice you have extra pills.?  Maybe take them all so you start the next month out fresh.

I don't know about others but I am more concerned about when my prescriptions run out than when my Ebay listing do or don't.

OH wait a minute one last thought. Since February is only 28 days and I pay for 30 should I not get a discount?

Re: REALITY CHECK

Nice analogy but there are many complaints and points to the GTC than just the number of days. First off your 1 prescription is easily tracked and its automatically incoming for you. You do not have to do anything..........and you want those pills. You asked for them and ordered them and paid for them. Your (200 listings example) you may not want to pay for again. And if you make listings every day it does become hard to keep up which ones you will now need to watch for.......every single day..........to not get double dipped. Many people prefer 10 day or other to rotate out listings and keep them fresh. They have a certain amount and a routine that works for them.

My personal issue with this is totally different. I have a store and my listings are already GTC and I just do not list more than my free listings wont cover. The problem is for many of us its another blatantly obvious dive into sellers pockets as always every spring update for added revenue that has nothing to do with increased revenue for sellers. Just like 30 day returns where ebay makes money on shipping. Just like undeserved defects leading to higher FVF for sellers. Just like search engine changes that destroyed views and sales right when promoted listings came along etc.

Some have said "this is a way to show up in search engines better." Awesome. If this was done to help sellers get more sales through better search results then why wouldnt ebay also say " so no more relisting fees when a GTC flips its 30 days? I mean ebay is going to make more money on the increased sales right? As soon as one opens their eyes and takes a whiff its easy to figure out what this is. And though it effects me not one bit, it hurts to see that nothing changes for the better and the sellers are always footing ebays next money grab.

What you are missing is that some sellers do not want to be charged at all.

If a seller wants to have 50 listings that use up his 50 free insertions every month, in your example he would get 50 free insertions on January 1, and have to pay for 50 renewals on January 31. And in February, his 50 free insertions would go unused.

(But as I and others have pointed out, simply starting your 50 listngs on Jan 20th instead of Jan 1st would eliminate this situation for several years).

Re: REALITY CHECK

from 2017:

A reader forwarded a copy of a letter they received from eBay:

Listings that haven't generated interest, after being active for a long time, can clutter the site and make it difficult for buyers to find what they're looking for. This can be unfair to other sellers when their listings are difficult to find. Therefore, we've done the following:

- We removed any listings that have been active for 1 year or longer without sales. A list of removed item(s) is available further down in this email.

-  Any fees for listings that were ended early for not following policy won't be credited to your account.

We recommend that you don't relist these items unless you first take steps to improve the likelihood of sales. Please also make sure that items don't automatically relist. Listing fees may not be refunded for subsequent removals.

To increase the chance of your items selling in the future, we recommend that you consider the following best practices:

- Reduce the price of the item.

-  Add images.

-  Include pertinent item specifics.

- Offer free shipping.

- List the item using the Auction format.

Re: REALITY CHECK

If this is cluttering up the marketplace making it harder for buyers to find what they are looking for then what in the heck do you think promoted listings doubling a listing is doing?
