Questions about Subtitle Fee

I accidentally included subtitles not noticing there was a $3.00 fee. If I need to change something in my listing (price or item details) do I get charged that $3.00 every time I make a change? Is that considered a “revised” listing and therefore I get charged again? What if I make a change but while I am doing that I delete the subtitle, will I only need to pay it once?

Also what if I just cancel the list and re-list it under a different listing, I know I will have to pay $3.00, but I can leave out the subtitle and not have to pay it again if I need to make a change?

Re: Questions about Subtitle Fee

The $3 listing upgrade fee is charged just once, when the listing goes live. It is not charged again if you revise the listing. But if an auction is relisted with the subtitle, or if a fixed price listing rolls over (each month,), then the fee will be charged again.

If you end the listing, remove the subtitle, and relist, then you will not be charged again for the subtitle.  But to be sure: Check the fees notes at the bottom of the listing page, before you launch the relist.

If I remember right, you can change your auction duration (which affects the price) if you do it within 2 hours of the auction going live. Might it be possible to delete a subtitle within that same time frame and save the $3?

Re: Questions about Subtitle Fee

Credits are not given for removal of any listing upgrade (subtitle, reserve, etc.).

Auction duration does not affect the price of the subtitle option.

Re: Questions about Subtitle Fee

That the subtitle option still exists is one of the lingering Ebay scams.  I think there are more people who inadvertently click on it and get unintentionally charged than there are people who actually elect to use this rather worthless feature.

I know; my point was that since something significant such as auction length could be changed as long as you did it within two hours after it has gone live (and presumably received no bids yet), I was wondering whether removal of subtitles could also be done in order to avoid getting charged for it.

Re: Questions about Subtitle Fee

It can be done, but you'd still be charged.

Just as, if you set up an auction duration of 3 days which has a $1 surcharge, you would not be credited for the $1 fee if you extended the auction duration within the 2 hour time limit. Auction duration is the only variable which has a 2-hour limit; other options can be changed as long as the listing has at least 12 hours left (and no bids, if an auction). But removal of an option doesn't get you a credit for the listing upgrade fee.

I'd go ahead and revise the listings and take the subtitles off.   You should be bale to see no charge as you submit the listing.  If you ever use sell similar from your listings it could slip by again.

It's not really a "scam"......

Here's the deal and it's something you can see in places other than eBay.

- An extra fee option is offered

- The company (eBay in this case) decides they want to remove that option

- The company knows some people will complain so they leave the option available but jack up the price to discourage use.

- Most eBay sellers vow to never use that option but a few continue to do so and pay the crazy high fee.

It's basically the same thing eBay did with Reserves on Auction Listings,  charge a lot to discourage use while raking in ridiculous fees from  those who don't get the message.

Re: Questions about Subtitle Fee

I think I just learned this the hard way. I had already created a bunch of listings but forgot to add information about the condition of the items I'm selling. So I opened 22 browser tabs, each with a listing in edit view and I entered content into the wrong input field. I realized my mistake within a minute after saving each listing and revised accordingly.

Hours later in the day, I noticed a negative balance. Had no idea I was charged $42.00 total for the item subtitle fees. Oh man... Going to contact CS tomorrow and see what they can do for me. I'm hoping that they can help me especially since I'm a new seller and it's my first mistake.

I'd appreciate any advice if you have any. If there's nothing that can be done, then this was a good lesson for me (but costly)...

Re: Questions about Subtitle Fee

UPDATE: They were very helpful today and manually issued a reversal for the fees. Thank you eBay!

Re: Questions about Subtitle Fee

It's a scam. I pay $6 for a subtitle fee. Ok cool, I have no problem w that. The problem I have is that if it doesn't sell in that month, and you have it setup to relist until item sells, eBay is conning you out of an extra $6 a month for that subtitle fee that should only be applied Once total, in the beginning, until it sells. The whole ending listings and relisting them after 30 days is a scam in itself. One of reasons being for what I just described.
