You, the seller will still get 'paid' but you'll have to give it back to the buyer.
The buyer gets reimbursed from the seller. Buyer first usually must open a 'return', seller 'approves' and upon delivery, seller refunds.

Yes, eBay will pay you.
Does the buyer get reimbursed?
Yes, you will need to give the buyer a full refund if they file a return for damaged item. Even though you will get paid, you will need to return the money to the buyer by way of a full refund. You will also need to pay for the buyer to ship the item back to you - or you can give the refund and not require a return.

There are two reasons for damage in transit.
The carrier broke it/ran over it with a truck/played football with it. This is the carrier's responsibility. The carrier is responsible to the one who hired them - the seller.
The seller is responsible to the buyer.
The seller packaged it poorly. This is the seller's responsiblity.
The seller is responsible to the buyer.
The buyer can open a Dispute and be refunded.
The buyer can ask for a refund without involving eBay and be refunded in full or partially.
The seller can demand the return of the purchase, even if the seller has a No Returns policy.
A No Returns policy is not a No Refunds policy.
The seller may have to pay for return shipping.
When the purchase is returned the seller would refund the buyer.
The buyer may also Dispute the transaction with Paypal (if used ) or his credit card company, for up to 180 days from payment.
TL/DR - The buyer: yes
- The seller: no

When you make a sale you get paid, then you ship, however if the buyer opens a case stating the item was damaged in transit, you refund the buyer AFTER the buyer returns the item to you. When you refund the buyer your seller fees you paid for the sale will be refunded.
If you have insurance through the shipping service you chose you can file a claim to recoup your losses.
