I’m new to this, so this may be an obvious answer to many, sorry. A potential buyer gave me an offer for an item I listed. I gave him a counter offer 40 hours ago. I haven’t heard back from him and in the mean time I have received a reasonable offer from someone else. Am I obligated to wait a certain time to hear back from the counter offer I made, or can I go ahead and sell to the person who most recently made an offer? I wasn’t sure if there was a required time limit on counter offers. Thanks!

An offer is not a commitment. Go ahead and accept the new offer. The principle here is: "You snooze, you lose."

You sell to the person that pay's. Offers, are just offers. Don't wait for any one, but for the person that pays for what you are selling.
Good luck on your selling journey!
