I've been searching for this topic but couldn't find anything on it so I apologize if this is a repeated question.
Is it okay to sell coupons that expired 20-40 years ago as collectibles?

Yes. Not sure if there is demand for them or not though .

May be allowed in "collectibles".
May not be allowed in the "coupons" category.
May be more info if searching in "help & contact". (top and bottom of most pages)
That would provide eBay "policy", as opposed to "hearsay"

My guess it ranks right up there with trying to sell dirty diapers.

You could list them under paper ephemera. Lots of people use those for scrapbooking and other art forms.
If they're food related, you could list them under collectibles>food, then pick the subcategory that works. Same thing for any other items.
Just don't list them in the regular coupon category.

You can list them as collectibles but there is always a risk the buyer won’t read and will expect unexpired coupons. Is the risk with it to you

That's a good idea, @southern*sweet*tea!
Now that I've been forced by this thread to give this idea some thought, I will say that I'm creating a heritage scrapbook of my mother and father for the younger generation of our family. Some of those old coupons would be great for a background collage on a couple of pages--like photos of Mom cooking a holiday meal or the family on a picnic.
Now I'm thinking yes, by all means list them as @southern*sweet*tea
recommended and batch them in "lots" of maybe ten or so and by "like" products--food, cleaning supplies, et al., or half of one type of product and half of another.
This is sounding better all the time . . .
