I am new here. I just sold an item for $435. It was a 7-day auction.
The eBay cut is $44.70. I thought it would be $43.50. Not a big deal, but I'm curious about why it's more than 10%.
This is how aBay presents it:
Item: nikon AF-S nikkor 17-35 1:2.8D ED-IF
Item number: 363315438996
Insertion fee: $0.00
Final value fee: $44.70
Promotion: $0.35 or credit $0.00
I don't get that last line.
The shipping I charged was $12. Is that where the extra $1.20 came from? I didn't think they took a cut of shipping.

Yes, the fee is charged on the item price plus the shipping cost.

The fee is on the total cost of the buyer's payment. Item cost, shipping, and applicable sales tax.

The first reply is right. It calculates out like this. $435 for item + $12 shipping = $447.00. 10% of that is $44.70.

They're not in Managed Payments, so eBay doesn't charge them a fee on the sales tax.

Had they been in MP, they would have paid more fees (assuming taxes were collected). 😞
