I just listed a couple of computer monitors. When I listed them, I entered "2" in the quantity field, as I had 2 to sell. I did not list them as a "lot".
I opted for calculated shipping rate, based on the weight and dimensions of the package. I tested this on the listing before it was sold - entered a few different zip codes and saw the rate change.
I received an offer for both monitors, which I accepted. On the page where the "Accept Offer" button is, I see the price for both units (the sale price doubled), and the shipping charge, but it's not clear if the shipping charge is per unit or for the whole sale. eBay's system doesn't specify this. When I received the payment, I noticed that it included shipping for just one of the units, not for both.
As shipping is expensive ($33 per unit across the country) I called eBay to ask about an appropriate resolution. I was informed that I could ask the buyer to pay another shipping fee, or cancel the sale with the buyer's approval. I emailed the buyer to explain that I could not afford to spend an additional $33 on sending the second unit. Buyer opted to cancel the sale and told me that this was my fault, that I had listed it incorrectly.
What does the "Quantity" field mean? Clearly the eBay system understands that the listed price is per unit, since the price was doubled for the buyer who wanted both. Why wasn't the shipping charge also doubled? Did I do something wrong?

The quantity part was fine. THe problkm was with the way the combined shipping was set up.

"Did I do something wrong?"
Yes.
You forgot to add a shipping charge for additional items. The default is $0.00.

I don't know if calculated combined shipping discounts work the same way, but when I have multi Q items and list with flat rate options that if I forget to fill in the Additional Iteem block, I am advised that each additional will be the same full shipping instead of $0.00
Like if I have shipping set at Economy for $3.50 and fail to fill in the Each Additional box, Each Additional defaults to $3.50 instead of $0.00.

Well I saw no error pop up when I submitted my listing, and in my shipping settings I see no option for combined shipping. This is what I see:

Could this be a glitch associated with "best offers"? If you are listing these again, you might want to consider listing them separately.

I'll get a screen shot of what I see once Turbo Lister is done with the task of deleting the Activity Log on one of my accounts (14,706 entries, so may take some time).

Thanks for the links. Appears to explain the problem I have exactly.
Some suggest that until this issue/glitch is resolved, we should be listing with quantity of 1, and make multiple listings. However, when I try to list one of my monitors, then list a second, I'm not able to list the second. I see this error message:

Just change the title slightly; I often do that as "item description Lot A", then I do "item description Lot B". You just can't use the exact same wording on both.
