Can someone please explain the Promoted program in plain layman terms. I have read and re-read the articles and just do not understand how it works? Guess I am just a plain old woman that needs it written in crayon.
Questions:
1. Why does it say I need to go higher each time I start to promote an item?
I read on here that sellers are going 2% but when I put in 2% it wants me to go 15%.
2. If I promote one item it says if anyone views it then I am charged the 'Promoted' rate for the next 30 days? Does that mean if that viewer purchases it in the next 30 days I am charged the additional percentage or if anyone purchases it I am charged the additional percentage?
3. If a promoted item is viewed am I charged the promoted rate on that item for the following 30 days or all items in my store?
Thanks, I appreciate the help on this.

1) EBAY makes lots of money off promotions. I never use EBAY suggested rate (2% minimum is okay).
2) You are only charged when customer "makes a purchase" after "clicked on promoted listing" for next 30 days. Not if random stranger made purchased and never "clicked on promoted listing".
3) You are NOT charged if anyone just "views promoted item" in your store. You are only charged when they "make a purchase".
Promotion fee is based on entire amount (purchase price + shipping + sales tax).

In plain layman terms, promoted listings are eBay's way of taking more money out of your payout in return for next-to-nothing.

Just say NO to promoted listings.

@riverdaughtercollectibles Some people have said they will, some people have said they will not. Some people have said they will continue to use General Ad Campaigns, but will revise how they use them. The actual rule change takes effect on Jan 13th.

We turned off promotions in October 2024, I think. Never regretted it.
