Promotion and their fees

I’ve been selling on eBay since maybe 2020 on and off . I’m a 54 year old disabled man and I sell different collectibles to help out with having extra cash because living off disability isn’t easy .

The seller fees seem to be getting crazier and more greedy from eBay. Example is I recently sold some coin collections and noticed I’m not getting hardly any views.

I was selling these lots out of desperation because for some odd reason it seemed no one was all of a sudden interested in silver coins. Until I made the mistake of using the eBay sellers “ promotions feature “ now all of a sudden everyone could see my listings. After 2 days I sold the lot and thankfully for my asking price not a best offer. The lot went for $300 but eBay took $40 out in seller fees and $30 for the promotion ad or whatever it is that I only used for 2 days . $70 in fees! RIDICULOUS!! And GREEDY!

I remember when a fixed amount was used for promotions now they recommend a percentage and me not full understanding this was charges 10% of my promotion. It just seems like eBay is getting more and more money intoxicated and they make out much better than the sellers do. And , if you decide not to use a promotion good luck on anyone seeing your listing unless of course you’re a well known seller and or a business. I’m just a regular citizen trying to make extra cash but the selling fees seem to get worse as time goes on. I’m seriously thinking of going back to that other platform that isn’t as famous as eBay but is beginning to. $70 out of $300 is **bleep** I’m sorry.

Promotion and their fees

Removing most of my helpful comments as they are unwanted and leaving it at this:

Advertising (promoted listings) is voluntary. Not only do you decide whether or not to use it, but you decide how much you're willing to pay to advertise.

You agreed to the rate when you clicked the buttons to apply the promotion.

When the recommended rate is crazy high (as it often is - in my category they push 17%) you have the option to not go along with it.

Walk without rhythm, it won't attract the worm.

Curious to know why you thought it was important to share details of your personal situation.

We all have our stories.  And quite frankly, they have nothing to do with understanding how this platform operations.

eBay greedy?  Welcome to the real world.

But then again, by your own testimony (you read the rules) were told in advance what eBay would be taking.

The fact that you "misunderstood" the discussion is not eBay's fault.

Promoted listings are software that eBay is selling.

Personally, I do not buy software if I do not know how to use it.

Or, in this case, if I think it's a total scam of no benefit to me.

Sounds to me like you are furious -- at yourself.

eBay seller since 1999. This is a posting ID.

So, I've never used promoted listings.  eBay is not greedy, they are a business.    Good luck finding a better selling platform.  Your other option is to sell locally, good luck with that
