Promoting your items

From what I see if you do not promote your item's you do NO SALES?  Is this the new Ebay. I did an experiment on my seller's page I promoted items and sold stuff,  took items off promoting for 2 weeks no sales in any of my seller's page.  So, is Ebay manipulating the market sounds illegal to me? So it seems I have to pay 20 to 30%   or more to Ebay now if I want to sell a item?

It is restraint of trade, bait and switch, extortion, etc.  The problem is, are you going to line up a bigger, better legal team than they can muster and MAKE them pay?

Not illegal.

Some sellers are doing fine without using Promoted Listings, some are using them, some claim they can't succeed in their category without them. Each seller ultimately has to decide to what extent he or she will use them (if at all).

I am currently running about 300 or so as PLS, and about 400+ as non Promoted. My two most recent sales have been non-promoted. I experiment with it in different ways. Fortunately, most of my items have very healthy margins, so I can afford to do that.

Thanks for your answer yep, I understand all that it's just so sad I have been on here since the beginning of time this is my experiment ID so I have another one, just curious how others feel. You would think they would want sellers to make money so they get a cut of it, instead many sellers items are just sitting taking up space. Just makes more sense to not hide sellers items due to them not promoting items and let everyone just sell. BET those CHINA sellers don't have to promote items in order to sell~!

Thank you for your answer my main seller ID I post a lot more this is my experiment ID I hear many with the same compliant as myself so will try and see what happens if I do 1/2 and 1/2. As when I promoted for 2 months I did a lot of sales (but higher fees) when I cut it off nothing for 2 weeks just seems unfair as not everyone has a huge margin or doesn't want to mark items up to high, but appreciate your answer ty

Sellers do make money. For every one you do not sell someone else gets a sale. There are over 7,000 bake light bracelets on Ebay as I type. The ones sitting and taking up space are the ones buyers either do not want, or they want it but it is priced out of their range.

I recommend a common grocery store technique.  Raise prices by 10% (bulk edit) then have a 10% markdown sale.   It's been working for me.

There are other ways to get traffic that doesn't involve paying ebay more money. I have added hotlinks to all of my ads that takes customers from one of my ads to another instead of them leaving to go look at someone else's stuff. I have lowered my promoted listed % rate on every other item seeing as each ad promotes the other, so not all ads need to be highly promoted. They promote themselves. 

My stuff is up over 100% since doing this...

As I said it's my test page, I don't care about the prices so that makes no sense that your picking at my items listed I didn't ask that and it's not my question but thanks for your uncalled-for input~!
