Promoted listings and still no views

I have been doing promoted listing for several months and some items dont even get views im not sure what the problem is and i have over 2000 items and only sell couple items a day this is frustrating what is even more frustating is ive listed on different selling apps and have got more view with the same exact listing.  So i dont know if the ebay app is having issues or its something im doing wrong, but its hard to stay motivated when you list so much more then your selling thanks for the help.

I get listings like that also that just sit there and never gets any views, I end the listing then do sell similar, change the title words around and relist, then all of a sudden it starts getting views. So not sure what causes that but it happens.

There are no guarantees you will have views, watchers or sales with promoted listings. It’s a gamble.

Re: Promoted listings and still no views

First, you sell a lot of clothing, one of the most oversaturated niches on Ebay.  Second, if you are going to sell clothing you are going to have to invest in a better photo setup than you are currently using.  You will need good lighting, an all white background, and perhaps a simple mannikin figure.  But honestly, given all of the above, your sales are not that bad.  By the way, I promote just about everything with a 2% PL and still less than half my sales are made using that PL.

Promoting your listings makes it more likely that buyers will see them. But it cannot force a buyer who is not interested in them to view them or buy them.

Re: Promoted listings and still no views

I agree with improving your pictures, but have you considered dropping your shipping charges. They seem high to me. People do not get how expensive shipping is anymore…but $9.00 to ship a blouse I think should be around $5 or $5.50.

Oh, boy. I did the same thing and like you, hardly or no views. Work harder, not smarter is the motto these days, it seems. I hope you do make some sales though. Millions of folk out there shopping, so the odds are good. I think.

Two things to add. You have no measurements on your clothing. That is very important. Most people will not message you and ask for them as they will pass on by.  So pictures need to be improved, add measurements, and agree with the feedback. Also how about cutting back on the number of listings and make them better and do half as many.

Re: Promoted listings and still no views

I looked at a few of your children's books and a lot of them seemed overpriced. For example, The Berenstain Bears In The Dark can be purchased for around $4-$5 with shipping included so I don't know how you came up with $12. Maybe the vintage books will do well but not the Disney or other contemporary books.

Re: Promoted listings and still no views

I have sold in many of the categories in which you sell.

Many of those categories are categories I no longer sell in because they draw high maintenance and fussy buyers, or there is not enough demand for the items at a price which is worth listing for.

You have many items which I would identify as low demand items, some which I would identify as unsaleable due to condition, no demand thanks to the internet (like many cookbooks) or demand at a price which is well below your price.

I no amount of promotion will make some of these sell.

Some of your items will sell, in time. Whether you are willing to wait long enough is a question only you can answer.

I admit that my opinion of the items I sell often influences how long I will wait, and whether I will list the item. If I think it has merit, I will wait for the sale. When I cared enough about making money, I would increase my number of listings until I had enough to meet my sales goals. I had the margin and the space to make that work.

Now with the government requiring me to take Required Minimum Disbursements from my retirement accounts, I care a lot less about how much I make selling online.

If the dead stock troubles you, do whatever it takes to make it go away, even taking a loss.

Re: Promoted listings and still no views

Your photos are doing you no favours - messy beds, background clutter and hands are not a great idea.

Re: Promoted listings and still no views

1) A listing picture should never contain items that are not part of the item being sold.

2) A plain white or solid color background shows off your items to best advantage.

3) I don't believe eBay states that you can guarantee sales by promoting your listings, do they?

Re: Promoted listings and still no views

An inexpensive piece of poster board will make listing way easier for you, as well. For clothing, a couple of decent looking hangers and a place to hang the item works well. A couple of inexpensive ideas that will also save you time.

Re: Promoted listings and still no views

Hi @crout-7

I see multiple misspellings in your titles. The quality of one’s listings is a determining factor in getting a listing picked up by search engines like Google or Bing for inclusion in their Search results pages. So double check everything for correct spelling. For example, it’s “Raggedy” with 2 g’s. It’s “Heavy Metal” not medal. An incorrectly spelled keyword may not be recognized and not show up in buyer search terms.
