Today I noticed that only the listings that are promoted are showing. Before the new eBay policy update, the promoted listing would show up as well as the original listing. This is forcing customers to only to purchase your promoted listings costing us more fees. So, if your listing would normally appear at the top and you promote your listing at a lower percentage, your listing may appear lower in the ranking (Bottom of the page). This is because someone else may have the same item promoted at a higher percentage. I took one of my promoted listings off and it ranked higher then if it were on there. I am going through my promoted listings and removing many of them so they appear higher up on the listing. We do not like this new policy and hope eBay changes it.

I was doing my favourite Search (Serenity Firefly -- Highest Price Plus Shipping First) after reading this post and noticed that there were no Sponsored/ Promoted listings until the 49th and 50th.
When I switched to Best Match number 30, 31 and 49 of the first fifty were Sponsored/Promoted.
With Best Match I also noticed some of my listings were in the top fifty (I use 50 to a page in my Search), so that was nice. None of mine in that top fifty were sponsored.
What does this mean? Darned if I know.
The criteria for Best Match do include TRS (I have Global TRS, no badge on dotCOM) and have been around a long time. I use a lot of pictures on these items. But all of these I have in stock are one of a kind, so I'm not getting any boost for multiple completed sales. And I'm shipping from Canada so my shipping is relatively high, although I use Free Shipping where possible, and a bit slow.
I suspect the main reason for the high standing is that these Fixed Price listings are about to close.

So then I Searche "Fanuc Teach" one of your products.
And again on Best Match and on Highest Price plus Shipping, Sponsored /Promoted did not appear in the first fifty listing of either Search.
Again, I have no idea why.
I have come to believe that if we Search and then repeat the Search, we get a slightly different set of listings.
If this is true, it may be because the algorithm thinks we rejected its first offering and is showing us others that may be of more interest.
But I'm just guessing.

I have yet to watch it just to see what the hype is about. I remember watching that one movie (I think it was called Serenity) and I hardly understood anything.

This is stated in the Seller Update in regards to ebay only displaying one of the two listings: "We will select which listing to display, based on factors such as listing quality, relevancy to the buyer’s search, and ad rate."
So if that function is working correctly, I would think in the OPs case for his listing that has a higher Organic exposure than his Promoted, the system would catch that and automatically display his organic listing higher on the list versus use his lower ranked promoted counterpart. It appears that this function isn't working properly then.
