Promoted Listings

Looking to see if other sellers feel that their items are pushed down the list if you don't spend a small fortune on promoting your items? I have several items on promoted listings but do not set them at a high bar because I feel we already pay eBay a fair amount for selling items on eBay.

Nope, no small fortune spent here........whatever I pay is included in the price of the item......

PL show up in places other than where normal listings would.........so my point of view is that we can, if we wish, pay for increased exposure...........a chance many have wished for over the years, to hopefully sell to buyers who "didn't know I wanted that".......

I did promoted listings most of the 2nd half of last year with little visible effect.  There is zero proof that any item sold just because it was promoted.

Agree that there is no way to prove that a buyer is actually buying from PL as opposed to the normal listing........except when ebay "tells" you it has.........  but if it's sold and I have the cost factored into my price........who cares?

Um, the proof is that when you go to promoted listings via your dashboard, it shows you everything you've sold through the promotion itself. That's proof.

I've been promoting my listings for almost a month now and I made $1,445.32 in sales and my promotional fees are only $100.

Might add that I had over a dozen things sell that have been sitting in my store for YEARS (since 2014-2015 or so without selling) that sold through promoted listings.

If that's also not proof, then I don't know what is.

Yes, and we know ebay would never purposely (or accidentally) skew information , or provide inaccurate information, when it comes down to benefiting ebay.

One of my points to the statement is the one that gains is eBay, they already raise the rates periodically but want more to let our items be seen. Do those of you selling remember when we weren't charged a fee on shipping charges to the consumer?? Well they were afraid that the seller was making money on shipping.... if it was such a concern why didn't they just devise a algorythm to charge the fee on the difference between what the customer was charged and the cost of the actual shipping label?? Now on items we have to charge shipping for we have to cushion the shipping charge in hopes to cover the fee on the shipping.

Simple math... more cost to promote = less profit or

mark the item up to compensate = slower sales ... the longer the item sits listed, the further down the list it populates when search by and for the customer to see which in turn makes it take even longer to sale due to the loss of visibility.

Because not everyone ships via ebay so there would be no way to tell what the actual cost was for those people.

As to remembering..........I remember having to pay for each picture, having to run auctions because store listings weren't shown in general search....... and paying 75c for each of those auctions.

We've always had to make decisions on what/how to spend to get sales.......just like any other business.......

Exactly! I use Paypal shipping labels, so Ebay knows *exactly* what I pay for shipping, and whether I am making money on this (which I'm not).

I have been doing PL since it began.  Very mixed feeling about it.  Since it began I probably have had 8 sales with 4 being returned because of buyer remorse. Cost?!?  WHoa!  I have been PL between 5-10%. Now add that you the already normal 10-12% for eBay and Paypal fees and that's 20%+. I always get sticker shock IF an item sells via PL. I have been cutting back as having a 20% commission rate east into ANY profit I may have hoped for and am lucky to break even with free shipping. And it doesn't seem to matter WHAT percentage you chose when posting promotional listings.  Just my experience.
