Can anybody share with me a scenerio that would show a Promoted Listing making any sence.
I just don't see it.
The fee is ASTRONOMICAL....am I right or am I wrong....right right right right.
thanks,
Ned Ryerson

I tried them for a while when they were new. You could only do multi quantity items at the time I think that maybe has changed now. I keep my item price a little higher to help cover the extra fee. The fee being adjustable I kept it at the high end for max exposure. Was getting some extra clicks, never did get a sale, though my goal was really to drive traffic to my store. Hard to gauge whether that did any good or not. Maybe I'll take another shot at it soon.

Astronomical? There is no fee at all unless you make a sale as a result of a buyer clicking on the promoted listing.

1. You get an allowance if you own a store ... therefore, up to a certain point for store owners, promoted listings are free.
2. For very highly competitive items, it gets your items more frequently toward the top of search. Items that never sold, suddenly sell.
3. You only pay if it sells.

Your right it doesn't cost you unless the item is sold...Remember we are here to sell and make a profit not make friends.
The Fee when you sell the item is obscene....kinda like a "protection" fee. Get my drift Tony Sopranno.

And the seller decides the fee they are willing to pay when they set the promotion.

I absolutely love promoted listings. You seem to forget that you the seller sets the percentage fee. The "suggested, or trending" fees are insane, I agree. I promote every one of my items at the base 1% rate. That essentially gives me 2 listings for the same item on search results. I've had great luck with it personally.

That's interesting you've had good results with a 1% rate. What's the trending rate for your category?

We stopped running them for a few days and our sales dropped down to 1 or 2 a day.
We started them up again and now we're back to selling 4 or 5 a day.
That's your scenario.

I've never used promoted listings so don't know much about them.
I figure if a buyer is looking for an item I have listed, they will find it.
When searching for an item, I scroll down past all the sponsored listings and never pay much attention to them.

You're wrong.
A great deal of these are tablets which only have 4% FVFs. I get $120 a year in promotion credits, leaving a rough balance paid for the 3 years of promotions of about $325 or about 1/2% in promotion fees. Hardly outrageous for 48k clicks and 50k in sales.
ebay got this one right especially if you know how to take advantage of it. I just wish they would bring back listing impressions but it doesn't look like that's going to happen.
In your case, your astronomical pricing is what's killing your sales as I and others have told you numerous times before. Promotions and advertising only works if the price-to-item ratio is reasonable in the first place. So I can see how you feel promotions don't make sense.

Thanks for your input.
But as someone has once said there's a foot for every shoe!
Peace.

Promoted listings worked great when the progam first launched. As the program expanded they became less and less effective and now (imo) they are mostly a waste of time.

The problem with promoted listings is I see both the promoted listing and actual listings at the same place. The point being in most cases your item would probably be at the same place it is if you did not pay for it.
But it depends on the category, so for some it might work, but if you are selling a unique item or one that not many are selling, it is in my opinion a waste of money.
